This is the perfectly embalmed body of Rosalia Lombardo who died of influenza at Palermo in 1920, one day short of her second birthday. Apparently you can still see her bright blue eyes glinting behind her eyelashes. A job well done.
Is she in a glass top coffin ? I just looked her up and she is ! She is so perfectly preserved ..... he was obviously really good at his job ! Reminds me of the sailors I posted about who went in search of Franklin who was lost searching for The North-West Passage. The bodies of the sailors were found in 1986, and had been perfectly { well, nearly } preserved in the ice. Not the same but it just reminded me of it. XXXX
Today the flu is raging especially among the youngest. Some US hospitals are very busy treating younger patients.
ReplyDeleteSame here.
DeleteWhat a delightfully creepy post, just in time for Halloween!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of that!
DeleteShe was a beautiful child. 100 years later, she still is. *shiver*
ReplyDelete100 years. There's a thought.
DeleteShe was a loved child! I wish I could see her eyes.
ReplyDeleteThat would be interesting.

DeleteThat was interesting. Thank you.
DeleteThere is a certain gruesome feel to this. She reminds me of all the tiny children that have died over time and broken their parent's hearts.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean. To have your child die before you must be awful.
DeleteThis post has given me the willies
ReplyDeleteI thought death was part of your every day life.
DeleteNot children
DeleteThe bow atop her head...she almost looks to be asleep.
ReplyDeleteYes.

ReplyDeleteYes, those sailors in the permafrost are interesting. Black fingers and noses but that's it.
