Intellectuals are the first to go

Quote from Dominic Cummings: 'The BBC is the mortal enemy of the Conservative Party'.

Ministers have been instructed to follow the example of Boris Johnson and not appear on any news items for interviews on this or any other matters.

Although the current Governor has pledged to make massive cuts to the expenditure of the corporation, news and drama will be drastically cut even after the dismantling has been initiated.

Wake up everyone. You are being manipulated by your own government (who hold the purse strings to your own money) for the sake of the private global media moguls.

This is will be one of the bigger impacts of the popular vote - something else which could never have been accurately predicted, but only warned of - another scare story.

Even the moderate right will applaud Cummings's plans to sell off yet another jewel in the crown of this country, but the majority of them show the same disturbing tendencies in accusing the far left of enforcing their own extreme beliefs through draconian legislation.

So, what do you think about it all so far? Happy?

  1. Now someone is going to pop up and tell me that I believe every bit of fake news that the BBC dish out to me. Maybe I should ignore it in the hopes it will all go away?

  2. What other broadcaster would make a programme in which Mary Beard interviews Clive James? Not the only example. MB was mostly cut out of the Civilisations series when shown in the US.

    1. I am not sure what your point is. Can you elaborate?

    2. The BBC makes innovative programmes that no other broadcaster would make. In all genres. We would miss them.

    3. Oh, I see I also agree. That goes for drama too.

    4. The also have massive archives. Netflix and the others do not.

    5. The conservatives in Oz are doing the same thing to our national broadcaster, and with the same results. The ABC is often accused of being too left wing but they produce the best content (if you have a brain).

    6. Trumpism. He (miraculously) got away with it and set a precedent - the result of which - is testimony to the stupidity of the electorate. Over 50% are fucking stupid these days it seems. I would rather think them stupid than plain nasty. That gives me more hope.

  3. Think of it so far? Not a lot Tom - the trouble is that all the alternatives were worse I thought.

  4. It's interesting to me how much the news from my country and yours seem to mirror each other so much these days. Trump has done nothing but attack the free press since his first day in office, and his supporters think only Fox News isn't "fake news" . Fox, as you probably know, is nothing but a propaganda machine for the far right. They call the "mainstream media" the "Enemy of the People". It's frightening. These are frightening times.

    1. Right from the beginning, British politics and economics have been inextricably linked to the US. Now even more so since Beexit.

  5. Tom, it definitely will be worse before it's better. I want to reserve judgement on how much worse until we elect a new president in November. In the meantime, I keep up the backroom scutwork for the Democratic Party. That's like my head half way in the sand, but I know no other way to do this.

    1. At least you have a credible opposition. We have nothing.

  6. Like Joanne I think we need to fight back. But it is going to take a long time. One fact is that the media will fight back. Enjoy Marina Hyde, see the funny side occasionally.

    1. The BBC is scared of fighting back. They depend on the government to allocate the funds. I have seen that link yet, but I will do.

  7. Happy? NO. How low are we going to sink?

  9. This was not in the promises Johnson made to win over the dischuffed labour voters. I remember something about 40 new hospitals and 4,000 new nurses (although some of them are already there...work that one out). We haven't seen any news of them yet.
Corbyn has a lot to answer for. His lack of credibility has got us in this mess as much as the conservatives.
Still...the people have spoken - for a Brexit that will do them no good at all and a government that will make sure of it.

    1. I think it is almost entirely the fault of the Labour party. They were not too bright either.

  10. Wow - both our countries are being overtaken by egotistical morons that don't have half a brain. I keep thinking it can't get much worse but am proven wrong daily. (I live in the U.S.)
