Dig for Victory!

WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED:

President Trump could have warned President Erdogan that he would not take any U.S. troops out of Syria if there were any move by Turkey to invade in his mission to destroy the Kurds, if only in order to prevent yet another humanitarian and political disaster in the region.

WHAT DID HAPPEN:

President Trump withdrew - and is in the process of withdrawing - every single American soldier who has been fighting side by side with the valiant Kurdish forces in their successful efforts to defeat the barbaric I.S. murderers, all of whom thought that the destruction of the Twin Towers at the World Trade Centre was a very good thing. Bear in mind that over 10,000 Kurdish fighters of both sexes have died to prevent the I.S. from creating the far-reaching, vicious Caliphate of their desire. We owe the Kurds big-time.

Today, many I.S. fighters broke out of jail in Syria because their Kurdish guards have been forced to weaken their defences because of Turkey and Turkish shells strategically landing on the perimeters of those prisons. The I.S. prisoners have now fled and there will be thousands more to follow. They will re-group in Iraq and some will end up in Europe and the USA. In more open camps they have already fled, leaving their wives and children behind.

Trump has actually said that the USA had no reason to defend the Kurds, because '...they didn't help us in WW2'. Well actually, they did. He says he does not want to put his own troops in any more danger, because 'The war has been won. Take a victory, America'. Won by who and lost again by whom?

WHAT I HOPE WILL NOT HAPPEN:

That there will be a genocide of Kurdish people, effectively sanctioned by Trump and the Pentagon.

That Erdogan will fulfil his promise to open the doors to Europe and let in 3.6 million refugees if anyone accuses him of 'invading' Syria. I wonder what else you could call it, seeing that Turkish troops are now going ever deeper into the country than even Trump had expected or had been briefed about. He doesn't listen to briefs from his Generals anyway, so I suppose anything was bound to be possible. Erdogan is a lot smarter than him.

Trump is such an idiot that he has put himself and the Pentagon into a situation which he and they can no longer deal with. If they remain and defend the Kurdish allies, they will be - effectively - at war with Turkey.

WHAT WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN (worst scenario):

That the U.K.'s trade, financial and cultural links with Europe will be severed for the foreseeable future, leaving us with only a handful of South American, North American and Pacific States with which to strike some extremely un-advantageous deals.

That the USA will continue to support Saudi Arabia in its covert war against Iran, but fail to support Israel when her border States feel strong enough to attack her with impunity.

Impeachment cannot come soon enough I am afraid.

  1. I agree with most every point you make. Still trying to make sense of this, I go back to the original joke that he never wanted to be president; he took himself by surprise! Now impeachment is his easiest way out.
There's nothing I can do for the Kurds. This is the saddest moment so far.

    1. Yes, he took everyone by surprise. There has never been a president so ill-equipped for office.

  2. Maybe a few rockets fired at Ismir would help Erdogan change his policies. What's good for the Goose, etc.

    1. That would be a sure-fire way of starting WW3.

  3. Another bad decision in US foreign policy in the Middle East to join with all the others.

    1. Russia is the only country that had any long term strategy for Syria. Russia will continue to talk to Assad and Assad's Army will move in to help the Kurds.

    2. For Assad to be persuaded to do that would take a complete turn-around. Everything is to do with individual personalities rather than the general good. Assad, Putin, Trump, Erdogan, Johnson. What a bunch of maniacs.

    3. He has, already been persuaded. There are 27 different groups fighting in Syria. I did the back of an envelope. There are rebels you never even heard of fighting and what side are they on?

  4. You described the situation so correctly. I would like to live elsewhere and at a different time.

    2. I like this one:
We have become a far greater Economic Power than ever before, and we are using that power for WORLD PEACE!

    3. I never said that. I never said that. This is fake news. I am a great guy. I know a lot of words. Long words.

    4. You heard it here first - in this form.

    5. We are a far greater ergonomoc chair than ever before! We are so bigly, so much biglier than other chairs, that we know WE KNOW that all other chairs are bigger rapists and murderers than even we are. Fullstop. We know that.

    6. President Bush:

"I know that the human being and fish can coexist peacefully".

Another gem, and so true, even today.

  6. On the news last night, an interview with a 10 year old girl from London, now in a refugee camp. Her parents took the whole family to Syria 5 years ago and are now dead, as are some of her siblings - just the girl and two younger siblings left. She now wants to come back to England if they can identify her grandparents, and have a garden. So sad on the face of things (although of course there could be more to it).

    1. Yes, I saw that interview. The girl looked completely traumatised, as she must have been. All the children must be.

  7. No other President would have ever done what Trump has done. He is beyond contempt.

  8. There is no role for the rest of the world in the Kurd v Turkey conflict. President Trump will likely come closest to stopping wars in the Middle East.
