It was probably staring at the service as a kid which gave her the life-long love of the palm trees which have featured so heavily in her paintings over the years. She's very fond of Arabs too.
There used to be a whole genre of decoration and decor in the Arabian theme. There were Hollywood sheiks who had their wicked way with any woman they pleased, they were so dashing, exotic and romantic. Fry's used them to sell Turkish Delight.

ReplyDeleteNo. It was Rudolph Valentino in the 1930s.
DeleteMy mother thought Gaddafi was extremely sexy.
ReplyDeleteI fancied his personal protection team.
DeleteHe was a horrible dresser.
DeleteI thought that women couldn't resist a man in uniform?
DeleteThe drawing of the camel is really bad.
ReplyDeleteIt's got a nose coming out of the back of its head.

DeleteFantastic jug. I can imagine being a child, looking at that exotic scene and dreaming of faraway places and people.
ReplyDeleteExactly. I used to imagine walking down Quality Street. Do you know what I am talking about?
DeleteI love the jug but it does look rather large for mint sauce unless you intend to feed an army.
ReplyDeleteIt's only about 3 inches high Weave, but the photo makes it look bigger.
DeleteI'm glad you put it into perspective. My mother used to collect pitchers of that size, and they were mostly charming.
ReplyDeleteSmall enough to go on a mantle shelf then.
DeleteOh, yes,
