Babe On Board
They stuck this onto the windscreen of a friend of mine's car this summer, when he took his dog on a tour of Italy. He liked it so much that he decided to leave it there for a while, in the same way that others leave their Glastonbury Festival pass stickers.
These days, we in the UK can take animals over to Europe fairly freely, but only if they have medical records and an up-dated chip implanted somewhere under the fur, ready for scanning at the ports. This dog has a chip on her shoulder - literally.
Every time he took his Border Collie through security, the person whose duty it was to scan her asked him to pass the dog through the window and offer up the implanted part of the body, rather than open the door and reach in with the device. Maybe they were afraid of getting bitten?
The sticker reminds me of the trend - some years ago - to have a sun-visor strip stuck on the top of the windscreen which had the first name of the driver over his seat, and the name of the passenger girl-friend over the other.
Pathetically, you would sometimes see the girlfriend's name had been torn off, leaving only the name of her ex, who drove around alone until he had a new sun-strip fitted.
I saw one unappetising bloke once who was driving around in his little hatch-back, and his name - let's call him 'Kevin' - was above his head, written in big white letters. Over the empty passenger seat was a big, white question mark.
My friend is - at the moment - 'between relationships', as they say, but the word 'PET' might be appropriate if he finds someone to share his car and life with. I'm not sure about the image of a dog, though.

I've got a PET bottle. I take it with me when I go running.
ReplyDeleteWhat's inside it?
DeleteNow there's an idea! Here in Angola I could sell car window stickers out of my shop saying:
ReplyDeleteGun Onboard
Would you need them in Angola?
DeleteAs I no longer drive Tom I rather think the farmer would like a sticker saying Back Seat Driver on Board.
ReplyDeleteIs there a cage fitted to stop you climbing into the front, Weave?
Delete'Me' and 'Her Indoors'.
ReplyDeleteOr Her Outdoors?
Deleteis the car a capri?
ReplyDeleteThe one above is a basic Land Rover, actually.
DeleteRecently I saw two cars parked on a drive and each had a 'number plate' made up of their names Michael and Kimmie. At least they get to keep them if the relationship ends.
ReplyDeleteSounds like 'Michael' and 'Gimme' to me, or am I jumping to conclusions?
DeleteShaz and Baz; Kev and Bev: Ben and Jen; Wally and Molly - noooooooo
ReplyDeleteAh - I see you know what I am on about.
DeleteGoing back two posts, I meant that Nosferatu, the 1922 version, scares me more than any other horror film that has been made .... EVER ! I think that Max Schreck brought such an eerie presence to the role and is the most frightening film that I have ever seen, and I've seen a few in my time !! ..... perhaps I didn't explain myself very well. XXXX
ReplyDeleteI know, I was just taking the piss as usual. Horror films have never scared me, only The News does that.
DeleteRegarding your DHL problem I'm waiting for a refund from Amazon. Hey, maybe they sent my book by DHL? Maybe it's stuck in the same black hole as your stuff? The good news is I'm going to get MY MONEY back. I'll stick to local independent bookshops in future. That'll learn me.
ReplyDeleteEverything turned up at once today - including the light and Sarah's book. I am so happy that I am going to do a whole different post about it.
DeleteI remember one in the car park of my local years ago...on one side 'Superdong'. On the other 'You What?'
ReplyDeleteI never managed to find out who had that car....
Just as well.
DeleteHi Tom,
ReplyDeleteI recently came across your "Tom Stephenson" blog and was wondering if there were any sponsored post opportunities available? I represent a number of senior living clients who are looking to sponsor posts with a contextual link in the text itself.
