The moment you have been waiting for?

Here it is - what do you reckon? Worth the wait? Worth the search? I met Lisa Burrows (the hatter from Taunton) yesterday, and she had brought with her not only this hat, but another in the same style made from a type of tweed which is produced in Wellington, Somerset, a few miles away from where she lives and works. I didn't know that Somerset made anything other than cheese, so I am very happy to 'test-run' it as she asked me to. She arrived with her boyfriend who - coincidentally - has the same, unusual last name as me (not 'Stephenson'). Also coincidentally, he ran into a musician friend of mine for whom he had set up sound (or recording) for, being a musician and technician himself.

Lisa normally specialises in women's head-wear, but I think she may now start a range of hats for men as a result of this request from me. I hope so. I told her about the forum I came upon when searching for it off the web-peg, and on it, people are discussing how to get hold of a hat like Rathebone's, and how impossible it seems to be. Someone found (as I did) a similar one from Bates and Co of London, but this has been discontinued for reasons only known to Bates.

Here is a link to Lisa's website: http://www.lisaburrows.com/

Pay her a visit - you never know, you may need a good hat one day.

  1. Ok. That is a nice hat. And looks good on you. Going over to her site now.

I need a new sombrero anyway.

  2. The hat is dignified, stylish and looks beautifully made. It suits you. And Lisa sounds like an utterly admirable craftswoman, reliable, creative and enterprising. I hope she gets a great deal of business as a result of your request.

  4. A beautiful hat and goes so well with your coat. You will be the talk of Bath and everyone will want one and Lisa will be the Philip Treacy of Somerset......now you just need to find someone to sort out your wall lights !!

  5. Is 'hat-n-coat' rhyming slang for 'stoat'?

    Q. What's the difference between a weasel and a 'hat-n-coat'?

    A. A weasel is weasely distinguishable, and a 'hat-n-coat' makes you look like a sleuth!

  6. Great hat, I like it! And since this is another "hat post", dare I ask whether or not you are wearing pants this time?

  7. Alison Moyet - apparently she's lost weight.

Those 'wall lights' are patches of missing silver on the ancient mirror, J.

That's for me to know and you to be completely disinterested in, Iris.

  12. Glad you agree (about the hat). In a way, it's a shame I have so much hair (for my age)

  13. It's just occurred to me that the marks on the mirror look like a machine pistol being aimed at a going-away pheasant - how appropriate.
