Almost a lifestyle post... but not quite

A friend of mine recently gave me a couple of artichoke heads to eat, because she grows a lot of stuff in her garden. She had never grown them before and didn't realise they were thistle-type flowers - if you don't eat them in time.

H.I. hid them away, and when I found them a week later, they had started to panic and fulfill their life-time's ambition to turn into flowers, so I took them out to the country and shoved them in water.

This is day two, and I have stupidly erased day 6 (today) from my phone camera, so they are now a vivid violet and the hover-flies love them.

So much better than binning them in town, eh?

  1. Yes, it's un-retouched colour, John, but now - a few days later - they have lost the slightly reddish tint and turned a deep blue.

  5. Aren't they wonderful flowers? I stumbled into a field of wild ones once, they were so pretty. Still picking out the thistles. I had to throw out my socks.

  6. I've just dug up all my plants for relocation, but kept a few flars which are now hanging upside down in the studio to dry. They've already lost most of their colour. I fear they may be destined for the compost.
