When I lived in a flat in Leeds, doing the washing with no outside drying space was a nightmare, especially as I didn't have a washing machine either. I did it all by hand in the sink, wrung it out as best I could and draped it over a clothes horse. The thing that made the biggest difference to my quality of life in my twenties was when I worked out that I could afford to rent a secondhand spin dryer from Radio Rentals.
Yes!! Apartment living has its awkwardness. We have a condenser dryer which is great but I have lots of clothes that can't go int eh dryer and so they hang up on inside for a few days and there's always frocks festooned in our living room. We don't have a proper place to hand wash, so thank goodness for front loader washing machines with gentle cycles.
For even quicker drying when in a hurry, place item on a towel...roll it up...walk on it....unroll and hang up half dried item and damp towel. Sun and fresh air is good , makes clothes smell and feel so much nicer, and they last longer as well
Sunshine and air dried is the best. Bed sheets dried on the line is outstanding.
ReplyDeleteThe smell is good.

We have had the same spin dryer for over 50 years.
DeleteSunshine is good but snow cleans rugs.
ReplyDeleteAfghan carpets are cleaned by putting them in a shallow bath of water and walking up and down on them.
DeleteMy dad had a months long assignment in England when I was young. Mom sent him with wash and wear everything. He got pretty good at laundry in a sink.
ReplyDeleteWhat we used to call 'drip-dry'?
DeleteOn those rare occasions we have a bit of heat and a bit of sun, I try to get the washing out in the backyard asap.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's the best.

ReplyDeleteMy daughter was born without a washing machine and we lived surrounded by clothes on racks.

That's how I do woollen jumpers.
DeleteLooks a bit of a flimsy shirt = probably shows your hairy chest to the world.
ReplyDeleteSorry to disillusion you Weave, but I don't have a hairy chest.
DeleteWho needs washing lines and tumble dryers ? It does look as if you could wear it as a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing 🤣 !!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteIt's not actually that thin - it just has the sun behind it. You and Weave are having fantasies...
DeleteImagine the sun behind you :-) (At least the contour will be a bit see-through.
ReplyDeleteOnly if it's wet! There used to be competitions here - Miss Wet T-Shirt...
DeleteMr darcy
ReplyDeleteIn these days of equality, we can now have Mr. Wet T-shirt!
