On this site opposite the Roman Baths stood the largest coaching inn in Bath, called The White Hart. After the hotel's demolition, the sculpture of a white hart was taken from here to Widcombe and now stands over the entrance to the White Hart pub.
That hotel must have been been grand indeed.
I like the sign. Have you been to the pub?
ReplyDeleteMany times. It is owned by an old friend.
DeleteWith a sign like that it must have been grand indeed
ReplyDeleteIt's a life-sized deer but probably dwarfed by the original inn.
DeleteI like to think of Mary Shelley going in for a drink.
ReplyDeleteShe might well have done.
DeleteAh memories Tom - how I would love to be in The White Hart in Lincoln - my favourite hotel in my home city.. They do fantastic cocktails in their cocktail bar. For the full pleasure you need a bedroom with a view of the cathedral just round the corner.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like my kind of hotel, Weave.
DeleteThat must have been a grand hotel. I would have loved to have seen a picture of that.
