No secrets

H.I. has just had one eye sorted with a cataract operation. The next will be in a few months time. As her eyesight improves, what I feared the most has now started to happen, a few days after the procedure. She is noticing high windows over the stairs which need cleaning. I will have to bring the telescopic ladder home.

As I was writing the above paragraph, our new iMac let out an unfamiliar ping and a text message from a friend flashed up on the screen asking how her procedure went. A few seconds later, H.I.'s phone made the same ping as the message came through.

So now it seems that our new computer has made a pact with her phone and syncs messages back and forth between each other. It's a good job we don't have any secrets.

  1. I'm glad that the cataract operation of H.I. worked well, Tom, and the second will too. Please give her my greetings and good wishes!
All of my friends who had such a surgery are happy that they did it - clean windows or not (I can see like an eagle but have the knack to overlook what I do not want to see).

    1. Well, none that we would text to a friend anyway.

    1. She will notice all my defects and flaws too. I have aged a lot since her eyes got worse...

    2. I was just going to mention the 'wrinklies', but you beat me to it. And make sure that you don't have any hair sprouting out of the top of your nose! I have seen it on some men. Oh, the horrrrrorrrr!!!

  4. Synching is a bit of a problem, my phone and tablet make little noises all the time, which mean messages. I am sure H.I. was much braver over her eye operation than myself. That inability to see 'high' is also a problem with me. Sure she will love you no matter how many lines have developed through time.

    1. I am a bit nervous of un-syncing them in case some things do not work without it.

  5. Your new computer install seems to be stellar. It is great when technology works well. The marvels of cataract surgery is amazing. H.I. will love her shiny windows too.

    1. Setting up a new Mac is so easy these days. Also, if some things do not go through you can email huge files via WeTransfer and download them at the other end.

  6. H.I. will be very pleased with this surgery and be looking forward to the next. But do be cautious with that damn ladder.

    1. There is one rickety ladder already here, but it is too unsafe to use. I am always cautious.

    1. After the first night you take the patch off your eye and then it is drops four times a day for about a month. After that it is back to normal. Very quick.

  8. I had both my eyes " done" at the same time a few years ago, and the main thing I noticed was that the colours of familiar items changed a bit. A peach coloured jumper became much more pink, and my slippers changed from grey to pale lilac for instance! A friend has some lovely purple boots that she insists are brown ( she hasn't had her eyes done!) Has H.I. been told that she might need "lasering" at some point? One of mine was 1 year on and the other 2 years. Something to do with the old " pocket" that the new lens goes in to has to be removed.

    1. Brave of you to have both done at the same time. There has been no mention of lasers.

    2. Frances a potter friend in Bath had his cataracts done...he posted a message to fellow potters...on no account change your glazes until your eyes settle...they are not as glaringly garish as you first imagine!!

  9. Sometimes I think my phone is connected to my brain. I'm thinking about something and then an advertisement related to it appears on Google.

    1. Yes, that is a little worrying! I have friends who believe that your phone uses the microphone and A.I. to listen to what you discuss. That is not so far-fetched. Smart speakers do it all the time.
