I am not a Hoare

Last night we all went to the Christmas lights at Stourhead gardens. Out there on the net there is a photo of us all standing under that starry arch.

Stourhead was acquired by the National Trust in 1946, but had been the home of the Hoare banking family since the 17th century. Hoare and Co. still exists as a bank, and is situated in Fleet Street, London.

Upon arrival, one of the guides in hi-viz stopped me and asked if I was one of the Hoare party.

I think this is the first time I have been mistaken for a banker.

  1. I had a few dealings with the Hoare family when I was stockbroking. They are nice people.

    1. I think it may have been because I was the only person to be wearing a proper overcoat.

    1. There were many installations by different artists. Some were quite spectacular.

    1. Sir Richard Colt Hoare, antiquarian, archaeologist, traveller and artist of the 18th and 19th Century died at Stourhead. A bit of a hero of mine!

  7. Great photo, Tom!
How did it feel to been seen in the light of a new identity?
Star dust coming down - in more than one way - but be assured: you are interesting without that glitter.

    1. It is not my photo, but yes, it is a good one. I Think I was mistaken for someone else because of my large overcoat.

  8. Love that photograph. We have a similar one that was taken a couple of Christmas' ago at Belton House. I posted it at the time. It seems that many of the big houses have the twinkly archway now at Christmas. XXXX

    1. This is the first big house light show I have been to. Now that LEDs are good, they can do that sort of thing easily and cheaply.
