Another handy hint

I haven't been doing much posting recently. There are a number of reasons for that, but saving electricity is not one.

I go to everyone else's posts almost every day, but I don't always leave a comment. Often I go to someone who seems to be getting no comments at all and I make a point of leaving one so they don't feel totally ignored, then as soon as I get the message that 'comments will be visible after the owner's approval' I regret it. I have a rule that I will not leave comments on someones blog if they use moderation, then I forget who does. I never go back to see if my contribution was acceptable.

I seem to have given up talking about what is going on everywhere because you know what I think and I know what you think. What's the point?

Thankfully, people seem to have stopped posting up recipes. The last thing we need is more recipes on the net. If I want a recipe I will look one up, and if I need it really badly I will go through the rigmarole of selecting which cookies I will tolerate to be able to read it. Here's a handy hint: the grandson recently installed AdBlock on our machine, and now we can watch entire YouTube videos without adverts every 5 minutes. It's great.

  1. Thanks for the tip on AdBlock. I'm with you totally and do not like what is going on in the world today. Nobody likes it. In my opinion, rehashing it just makes things more dismal. That said, I'm celebrating Christmas...Big Time. Enjoy.

    1. Christmas has always been the great escape from a harsh winter.

  2. I did not know about AdBlock. I will have to look into that. Thanks.
I like reading blogs and leaving comments when I can think of one. It's conversation and I find it interesting.

    1. Yes, conversation is much better than an unwanted lecture from unqualified people.

  3. I´ve used Adblock Plus for a while now, it is really good. Advertisers don´t like it, though!

    1. It may have other ramifications which are not too good, but for now I am grateful for it.

    1. They have just started asking me for donations and I might give them a one-off payment at some time.

  5. I don't always comment but I find myself thinking a lot about some of the people here whose blogs I've been reading for several years.

    1. Yes, there is a strange attraction to people we do not know other than from the blogs. We get involved, and that is good I think.

  6. Is the Orange Grove still there? I take it it has nothing to do with oranges.

    1. Yes, Orange Grove is still pretty much the same. The name comes from the Netherlands orange, as in William of Orange.

  7. I don't get ads on youtube and I think it's because I log in to it with my google login. It's a pain to watch with the ads.

Re Bath, we're watching McDonald & Dodds at the minute and it looks gorgeous.

    1. I have only seen one of those, because I thought it was so bad a series.

  8. My only experience with AdBlock was unfortunate. It was years ago, when they were very startup, which may have been the problem. I'll take another look.
I think we are all to tears, not about blogger, but about The World.

  9. Re leaving comments that don't appear until later makes me think twice about bothering. Part of the fun is seeing what your other "blog friends" have written and sometimes bouncing off what another commenter has written, so if you are early there are no other comments to see. I also think that comments should be replied to by the blogger...it is polite and leads to a nice connection/friendship between people across the world.

    1. Some people say that if they don't moderate the comments they get nasty ones from trolls, but there are ways of dealing with those. In any event, if they do really get nasty comments they are going to read them anyway, so why do they think they have to protect the rest of us? I don't believe it.

  10. I can't be bothered to moderate comments on my blog. Where's the fun in that? If someone wants to be an ass in the comments, the delete button is always an option (if they become truly offensive).

  11. My skills are so pathetic I leave everything just as it is so that I don't muck everything up.

  12. Hello! I last posted in October when I got back from Canadia, but I've been sick and busy and miserable since then and reckon if I posted it would just be to complain, and then I'd either get ADVICE or SYMPATHY, both of which I disdain in equal measures!
