Lunatics

Are you someone who is affected by the phases of the moon? Some people admit to it and others don't. Some seem not to realise it, or if they do, dismiss it as nonsense.

Maybe I am kidding myself, but I think I notice the effects in others rather than myself. There is one particular blogger who I no longer follow but still read, and I have noticed that his apoplectic rants seem to coincide nicely with a full moon. Worryingly, he attracts a lot of support for them.

I forget which ancient spiritual leader it was who said that the first thing you should do is break free from the influence of the moon.

Is it just coincidence that the moon appears to be exactly the same size as the sun when viewed from Earth?

  1. Maybe I am affected by the phases of the moon but I have never felt it ...... probably should ask people who know me ! XXXX

  2. Nanny goats wag their tails profusely when it's a full moon. It's time for them to go to the buck to get pregnant.

  3. The moon's gravitational pull on the Earth causes the rise and fall of ocean tides. How can the moon not cause some impact on people? I think it is a given.

We are definitely affected by lunar phases

  5. I have heard this, but am a poor one to judge my own behavior.

  6. I grow hair on my hands and feet at full moon and go awandering beneath it, but otherwise it does not affect me much. it must be an old wives tale

  7. I feel the influence of the moon - sleep and mood - but now I was told that I belong to the newly discovered species of HSP. Had I but known!

  8. I can't say I feel any influence - though I'm acutely aware of the moon phases because we live by the sea and it impacts the tides. Thirty years here and my wife still doesn't get it though- if I say it's a so and so tide because the moon is full or missing she just looks perplexed!

    1. You should do the old demonstration using salt and pepper cruet sets on the table. That always confused me.

  9. That ancient spiritual teacher must have been a man. It's a bit difficult to disassociate menstrual cycles from the moon! Interesting that most mammals' fertility is solar based ie twice a year whereas women are monthly.
Personally, full moons are when I lie awake all night and the dog is galloping around in the bush shouting at ghosts ... oh wait

    1. Yes, I think he must have been. I suspect there was a massive backlash against the matriarchy which culminated (I hope) with people like the Taliban. Feral pigeons are interesting. Whereas most birds are seasonal, pigeons will carry on reproducing so long as there is a food source and the temperature is not too cold.
