Catch 22

Priti Patel has created a great Catch 22 situation by planning to deport 'illegal immigrants' to Rwanda for the 'processing' of their applications. This applies to single men (correction - anyone) who cannot get their applications processed in Britain without first becoming an illegal immigrant. This new punishment will apply to all countries of origin, including Afghanistan and Ukraine. It will be a one-way ticket to a country not known for its human rights.

This new policy has been deliberately leaked whilst Parliament is in recess to avoid scrutiny by elected members.

I don't care if the Conservatives run themselves into the ground, but I do care if they take the rest of us with them.

    1. The excuse is that they are trying to go against people smugglers, but that was not the excuse when making entry into Britain so difficult for Ukrainian refugees.

  2. I'm trying to understand how and why this would prevent, or even help detect human trafficking.

    2. They say, 'You wanted a new life so have this one'. There is a strong element of kidnap too.

  3. This is scary. Rwanda being the biggest scare factor there could be in spite of any good intentions of a master stroke to stop the boats in the channel. (Master strokes and the migrants in the Channel never work like paying the French millions to police it for starters). This will fail to stop the boats. Priti Patel clearly hasn't read Do Not Disturb by Michela Wrong. I read it last year. People disappear if K doesn't like what they say, he has done a Putin in that he changed the constitution so he can remain in power, he is corrupt but he manages to befriend western leaders from Blair, with Clare Short, to Clinton to Cameron and now presumably Johnson and Patel. He will like the money but how he will spend it is anybody's guess. I haven't put his name in full because his trolls will find you in a search so I won't be guilty of causing him finding you or me. By the way, Blair had an idea to send refugees to Tanzania but they turned him down.

    1. They like being photographed with world leaders. They like the credibility it gives them, of course. K would obviously love both the money and the kudos, but if anyone thinks he will use either for the sake of the general good, then they don't live in the real world or they don't care. Patel does not care. At least in the days of Tony Blair there were enough scruples to curb the less savoury of his plans. Now there are none. It has become dog eat dog and may the weakest lose. I hate the way we are going.

    3. Nasty is as nasty does. We can only take people at face value. Everything else has to be left to professionals. Home Secretaries are never popular but she is special.

    1. In this country, 'taking back control' means exactly the opposite. This is how Boris Johnson came into power.
