Part pineapple, part cabbage

I have been a bit busy recently installing these pineapples on their gateposts.

You may remember that one was missing and I had to provide a copy to replace it back in last Summer. I am now tarting up the pillars beneath them ready for the house sale.

There will be no prizes for anyone who can tell which is the new one. On the contrary, I will find a way to punish them.

  1. I love them ….. I have a 50/50 chance of guessing which one you did ….. I think it’s the first one ?. I’m probably wrong ….. I can’t tell the difference ….. you’ve done a great job. XXXX

  2. I am guessing the first one too - but how come the house is made of stone in the first picture but the second phots shows a house rendered in white?

  3. Just looked back at the pictures since the beginning in April last year. It has turned out brilliantly.

  4. I came along to say the second one. Only because the leaves on the first one appeared more rounded and worn. You did a really good job though. They are identical.

    1. I always say to people that the texture and colouring is only a camouflage, but they always expect miracles. It is trickery really.

  5. Great! My educated guess would have been right, yet too late.

    1. You have escaped punishment thanks to the first two guesses.

  7. It must be the second one because the first one is wonky.

  8. Nice to see the fruition of your efforts. I wouldn't even venture to guess. It is so lovely to be content with a good job, isn't it? Stay well.

  10. Absolutely beautiful! Aren't they in front of a pub?

    1. It used to be a pub dating from the 17th century.

  11. Very clever work there. This is the perfect spot to thank you for your "Flambards" recommendation, too. It was great! Just finished it this week. I was hoping the intolerable Mark was going to get it in the neck but no such luck, and I'm being pestered by the jaunty theme music as soundtrack to my dreams. The liberal use of bongo drums was also a curious musical choice but alongside the whistling I guess it was budget-friendly. Did you know the actress playing Christina had never ridden a horse until a week before filming started?!

    1. The music is extraordinary isn't it!

    2. Never ridden a horse? I am amazed, especially as she was riding side saddle. That is a real skill. Mark reminded me of the transformation of Michael Portillo after he lost his job. Which one is the real one? The nice one or the nasty one?

  12. I would have guessed the second; its base is newer. But no matter; it's beautiful and it's finishing.

  13. I can not tell the difference between the two. You built a great match. The owner must be thrilled.

    1. I have made it a speciality which - I hope - gives me an advantage over other restorers.
