Maria

A troubled night meant that I listened to the whole of 'The Prisoner of Zenda' followed closely by 'The Last of the Mohicans'.  Who knows what effect this will have on my state of mind for the rest of the day.

There now follows a handy hint: Remember when I said that I tried to remember to cancel the indent at the beginning of the first paragraph of a blog post by clicking delete once? Well yesterday I discovered that if you start by clicking it twice, you can then choose your own paragraph spacing. There must be all sorts of unknown features to the new blogger waiting to be discovered by accident. Maybe I should have taken the video tutorial after all.

Return, return, and so begins a new paragraph. I long to go down to the sea again, to the rolling sea and the sky. I left my socks and shoes there, I wonder if they're dry? (Spike Milligan).

Return, return to Xanadu. Return to sender.  Many happy returns. Say it soft and it's almost like praying...

I am beginning to find out what 3 hours of back-to-back historical romance does to the sleep-starved.

  2. I too listen to the spoken word most nights. I did fall asleep during Zenda some months ago though...had to go back and back to recap.

    1. I usually fall asleep to things that I really like. That means that I have to listen again, which is a bonus.

  4. Darling Tom,

Great minds were restless last night....

We reached out for the Roberts radio, as was our habit of old, to tune into something which would drone through the early hours. No such luck. The battery is dead. It has been too long....

    1. We used to have a Roberts radio but it had crap sound quality. I bought a Pure DAB one. So much better.

    2. Sounds deliciously high tech....not sure we would understand how to switch it on!!

    3. They are like any other radios, but with better speakers. I am sure you are used to dealing with knobs. You deal with me, after all.

  6. The boy stood on the burning deck. Whence all but he had fled – The twit! (Milligan again - as I'm sure you know).

Your post reminds me I once went to an all-night Werner Herzog Film Festival.

    1. I can beat that. I watched Warhol's 'Empire State' all the way through one night. Even Warhol never did that.

  7. Mmmmh - an all-night Werner Herzog Film Festival -- a complete watch of Warhol's Empire State! - no, I can't beat that.
As a still proud mother I just can add that during school time my son and a friend of his started in the early morning to listen to complete Wagner's Ring (reading the notes & text while listening) - until that (and the day) was finished.
When you wrote "Maria", Tom, I hoped to discover something about Maria, the so sweet Italian woman who commented in such a great way - I miss her. Do you know anything about her now?

    1. No, sorry. I was referring to the quote from Westside Story hidden in the post.

  8. I thought of her too. I wonder how she left such a strong longing for her and did not even have a blog. There was something very special about her.

    1. There are many people who have disappeared that I miss, but the Hattatts are back.

  9. Yes I had forgotten the Hattats until they arrived back.

    1. Oh really? That is sad. I wonder who ties up the loose ends with these blogs, but obviously nobody.

    3. I can't be bothered to trawl through all the comments to see what you said. Maybe you can condense it here, or maybe I will never know through apathy.

    4. That wasn't meant to be as rude as it sounded. I do read your comments, or most of them, but I hardly ever go back and re-read them.

    5. I've just read it, but one of the other problems is that blogger now seems to shuffle the posts and put them out of chronological order, making it very difficult to go back without knowing if you already have.

    6. I agree this shuffling of posts in the reading list is becoming annoying.

  11. We too have a Roberts Radio. I think it was there when I came into the family in 1971. My (not so great) mind is often restless at night. Like Rachel I go for the hot milk. I don't know what is worse nowadays: a whole bottle of wine or 6 meatballs.

    1. I'm talking both. Roberts radios are really bad. Buy a Pure one.

  12. When I was at art shows near and far, I set the motel television to turn off hours later. Then I turned off the lights, and fell asleep to the TV flickering on the ceiling.
