Getting up to something

Has anyone here had any experience with telescopic ladders? No of course not. Silly question.

I have just bought one online at half the price it would have cost me at B&Q and I am now waiting for someone to tell me that a friend of a friend lost all their toes and fingers by climbing up one to clear the gutters. I will remember this post the first time I use it and will probably wish I paid twice as much for it as I get halfway up.

I hate ladder racks on cars. They completely spoil the look of an elegant Volvo. This ladder will be out of sight on the inside. I used to have a 14 foot double extending ladder but it was a horrible thing to carry around and storage was a real nuisance.

I am going to have to use this thing in the next few days.

  2. Check for the stabiliser at the bottom to make sure it doesn't 'spread' apart when you climb it, as the actress said to the bishop.

  3. I managed to get out of cleaning some leaves out of some gutters the other day. I try not to use ladders now I am in my mid fifties. Get somebody younger to do your climbing Tom.

    1. I tried that and it didn't work. I am in my late 60s and still have to climb ladders.

    2. Because I don't know any young people who could do what I can when they get to the top.

  4. Looks like a Bauhaus inspired ladder to me; where the ability to 'stack' was more important than aesthetics.

    1. If it was a beautiful looking thing to fall off, then fuck aesthetics.

  6. I go up ladders to prune the roses .....I just keep saying to myself “ Don’t fall off “ over and over again ! Your ladder is far superior to mine so I’m sure you will be fine .... we just have to take care a bit more now we are older. ( I don’t like saying it but it’s a fact ! ) XXXX

  8. Since it will live inside the Volvo, it won't be a temptation to midnight marauders, yes? It looks ingenious to me, if you use it properly.

    1. It will be hidden. I will be using it on Friday so long as it turns up.
