My mail-shots have paid off already. Yesterday I received a phone call from the owner of the very house and gardens which would have been my first choice out of the ten that I contacted.
I will not be bound by confidentiality agreements with this place, so when/if anything comes of it I will be able to show you pictures of the work - so long as I think they are interesting enough. The house and gardens are already advertised nationwide, so they would probably appreciate a bit more.
I am going to meet them tomorrow, Bank Holiday Monday, to discuss the work which involves both bronze and stone. Good job I turned my bow into a harp with all those extra strings. After the meeting H.I. and I will be having a cream tea at their cafe in the stable block courtyard. We often take tea there in the Summer. It is idyllic to park in the old orchard by the wide, shallow river and watch the children paddling in the dappled light of the overhanging trees on the banks.
Summer, Summer, Summer...
I am very glad for you...looking forward to seeing the pictures, if and when there are some.
ReplyDeleteRight now the pictures are already up and out there!
DeleteFantastic! You must be relieved. Hopefully even more work comes your way. I have an image of "cream tea at their café in the stable block courtyard". -Jenn
ReplyDeleteI can see a path ahead now, even if it is a very narrow one at the moment.
DeleteWisteria grows there too. Good start.
ReplyDeleteYes, but it's over now I think.
DeleteTold you so !!!!! The Hattatts will be proud and know exactly where ( as do some of us ! ) You will soon be so inundated with work your blog will be neglected. XXXX
ReplyDeleteI am trying to attract them back by shouting their name instead of the place.
DeleteI don't actually understand the Hattatt connection but I do know that they once owned a garden in Herefordshire that I visited before they moved away.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to hearing and hopefully seeing more in your future posts.
All will become clear I hope.
DeleteThat's great news Tom and I'm happy for you!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer.
DeleteI can only think of one garden near you with a river close nearby. The garden is full of antique stonework bought back from Italy, and they serve cream teas in the Housekeeper's Tearoom. I intend visiting there soon myself.
ReplyDeleteGood luck for tomorrow.
Great news, good luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yael.
DeleteIt is certainly not Summer here today Tom.
ReplyDeletePleased about the possible commission - good luck for tomorrow.
Thanks Weave.
DeleteOh, God, I am so excited. If anyone would hear back, I'm glad it was you!
ReplyDeleteI am hoping this is a small beginning for this place.
DeletePlease explain about HATTATTS!
ReplyDeleteAs a fairly recent newcomer to this select group of bloggers, I didn’t understand the reference. I googled and discovered that the wonderful blog had stopped in 2015, which is when I started blogging. Why did they stop and where are they now? A mystery couple indeed!
Jane has a big presence on at least Face Book and I don't know about Lance. They tended to write as a single entity in any case. I'll explain about the title some other time.
DeleteThey were a civilising influence around here. Bitter arguments tended to stop when they turned up. I miss them.
DeleteThey are both on Instagram and Jane posts photos of where they are regularly.
DeleteAh. Maybe I should sign up to that.
DeleteGood news, for sure, Tom. I look forward to seeing your work, should you wish to post it.
ReplyDeleteDarling Tom,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the 'shout out'!
We are totally thrilled that you will be involved with this remarkable garden which has a firm place in our hearts. We are sure that you will work magic therevand breathe new life into a place which is, in our view at least, a national treasure!
When not being entirely mysterious, we are to be found on Instagram. It has been fun finding some old blogging chums there. Darling Tom, are you not to be persuaded to come over to the Instagram side too? It would be huge fun to see you there.
Cannot wait to see future developments. All so exciting.
Love from us both,
J and L xx
