There'll always be an England

Some people were sitting around yesterday saying that they were beginning to feel sorry for Theresa May.

I had to remind them that she was the one responsible for sending the Home Office on the hunt for illegal immigrants which lead to deporting hundreds of West Indians to a country which they hadn't seen since they were invited to come over here to help run our transport system.

She knew that she was taking on an impossible job, but she could not resist the office of Prime Minister. They all have their eye on 10 Downing Street and one of them will shortly be taking her place once she has taken the blame for Brexit.

She deserves to take the blame for Brexit. She is a lousy negotiator (when she does, indeed, negotiate) and the EU now has got Britain just where they wanted - by the balls.

She has deliberately dragged her feet since Chequers thinking she could force her own government to accept the flawed deal out of desperation. She is only in still power from buying-off the DUP. Her own party doesn't want her but they didn't want her job before the inevitable catastrophe of Brexit had unfolded on her watch.

They are just about to vote on whether or not to allow an exit from the EU with no deal. What's the betting that they will allow a disorderly and unregulated departure just so British businesses can actually make plans for it?

9 years of austerity followed by this.

  1. Nothing wrong with looking for illegal immigrants. What happened with the Windrush West Indians was not her fault. The paperwork disappeared under Labour which would have proved their origin and two senior civil servants mishandled the affair. Amber Rudd carried the can in the end. As for May's negotiating skills unless you are privy to talks she has experienced with Junnker et al I dont see how you can know. Where she has failed big time is in the Commons where she has acted alone, lost her Cabinet too many times and not compromised. She now has Geoffrey Cox who it turns out is a cunt.

    1. I think the outcome of her negotiations with the EU is testimony to her skills. She may not have been responsible for the Windrush business but she didn't do much to redress the situation. Some of the deportees are still out there.

    2. I have to remind myself that you were prepared to give Trump a chance to show his true character and ability in office.

  2. May has certainly worked hard on her Brexit plans. Maybe she wasn't tough enough on Juncker et al, but they are a very unpleasant bunch to deal with. As Rachel mentioned above, the Windrush scandal was prompted by Labour to hide their own involvement. Never forget; Labour are NEVER guilty; Tories ALWAYS are!

Anyone watching the beginning of Hammond's speech, this afternoon, will know where the truth lies.

    1. She has worked very hard to keep her job. Teams of civil servants have been doing the rest. So you don't think that this the worst government with the worst opposition in recent history? Blind loyalty can go too far.

    2. I think they've made a terrible mess of things, and probably will continue to do so, but May has been a constantly hard working woman amongst a bunch of back-stabbers.

    3. Like I say, she has put more effort into preserving her job than anything else - even to the point of sacrificing her own party's credibility. The backstabbers want her job when she is finally forced out and the battle between these few people have cost us any real chance of a decent Brexit deal, if such a thing were ever possible.

  3. All the gods have clay feet. Some were not gods to begin with.Trudeau and May, that is. Trump remains a god to about half of our electorate. The world slowly slides off the deep end. But, it was worse in old times. In addition to the fruits of rebellion and insurrection, there was plague and tetanus and measles among the peasantry and the indigenous. And, no one had google to say words are spelled wrong.

    1. We had Samuel Johnson to universally correct our spelling.

      quite fun,

  5. The whole damned lot of the H of C should be put in a sack and dumped in the Thames. They are all in the Metropolitan Westminster bubble and run all in different directions like a lot of scalded cats.
I shall not vote in a General election again until a meaningful, adult party emerges from the rubble.
