Let's talk bollocks

I don't understand why people who want a dog don't just save a mutt from destruction by going to the RSPCA pound rather than paying a lot of money to a commercial breeder for whatever is in vogue at the moment.

And I don't understand why gay men (an Archers story line prompted this) don't save one of the many unwanted children from a life of institution by adopting, rather than wanking into a test tube to continue their own particular gene sequence and paying a surrogate host a few thousand pounds for the inconvenience.

And (sorry) I don't understand how a trans-woman can politically and socially represent the whole of womankind when they have never experienced what it is like to be born as, and grow up as a girl.

And I don't understand how young women can write 1970s graffiti in a pub toilet (my pub) and completely ignore the thousands - millions - of women around the world who are really having a rough time compared to their soft and indulged life-styles.

Do you find my attitude old-fashioned? Am I some sort of male bigot who needs re-educating?

  1. Because, ultimately most people are selfish. And no, I don't find your attitude old fashioned, just representative of the era of your upbringing. It's all very depressing really.

  2. I think Christina is right in that you are a representative of your era, in fact I really don;t know how any of us can be otherwise however hard we try. I think it is impossible for us to really understand anyone in any of the categories you state. Surely you need to be one to really understand.

  3. Oh, so I am now too old to have a valid opinion which is relevant today am I? All this stuff makes me so angry. Not for myself, but for all the genuinely abused humans who are completely forgotten by fashionable, well to do people with the luxury of choice which they are told are their 'rights'. I think it is outrageous that men often earn three times as much as their male counterparts, but this means nothing if you cannot afford to even feed your children. We need perspective.

    1. Exactly the same applies to straight couples in my opinion. Sorry I singled out gays, but it was the Archers story line which prompted the outburst. I still do not understand how people can bypass the imploring eyes of those that already exist in favour of idiotically perpetuating their own blood-line by creating new monsters.

  6. You know, it's a funny thing. If I say anything vaguely socialistic, then I am accused of being Stalin incarnate, and if I express any opinion which goes against the general mores which are destined to self destruct within a matter of months, I am accused of being reactionary and right-wing.

Well I will tell you what - I am going to sleep on it, but the way I feel right now is that I am utterly fed-up with this cosy blog, and I know that anyone who really wants to talk to me has my private addresses, so I think I may be gone by around mid-morning tomorrow. I don't need sycophants, I need real people.

  10. Tom, I like your grit. I don’t feel your old fashion. We all have our own belief systems. Who am I to tell you how to think 🤔 or what to say? Stay true to yourself! Gabs

  11. What I find so tiresome about blogging is getting in trouble for not being a cheerful sycophant. I’m not sure I get the point of all this if it’s just about patting each other on the head and saying “There, there.”
