Beer shortage shock horror

The title of this post comes from my German friend's reaction to my suggesting that the colourful tourists of a couple of posts ago could be Eastern German.

He said that they were probably some other Eastern nation, like Bulgarians or Hungarians.

I pointed out that Hungarians and Bulgarians never come to Britain on holiday, let alone in groups. They are often employed by fruit-farms and usually pick hops in the season.

Then I frightened him by saying that after Brexit, there would be nobody to pick hops, so no more beer would be made.

He loves the brown English ales and will be most disappointed to come all the way here to drink German imported beer.

  1. The orange rules have left crops rotting on the ground in this country. I suppose hops rotting in the air would be the same.

    1. Call me old-fashioned, but I abhor food waste.

  2. As I have never tasted either I feel I am not in a position to comment. (I keep telling you I have led a sheltered life: whether you believe me or not is entirely up to you).

  3. I don't know about the beer trouble but I had another look at the tourists. The guy in the yellow jacket looks very German. He also looks like he lives with his mother, who is a very domineering woman.
