Fake Spring

So, Trump has gone against the wishes of Putin by launching 59 1000lb Tomahawk missiles on a Syrian airbase. Interesting. A journalist on the ground has established that there was no chemical weapons stash where Assad's bombs fell - there was nothing but a grain and animal store. Fake news works both ways.

Obama's administration was worried about escalating conflict between Russia and the USA, so turned a blind eye on all the barrel-bombs dropped on Syrian civilians, but Trump seems to have no qualms on that score. Maybe his special relationship will pay off for the good of the world after all.

An American specialist said that the USA could destroy Syria's airforce completely in one night if they shipped up some more armaments to the Middle East, but this latest strike  is meant to be a deterrent against the further use of chemical weapons. Let's hope it puts a stop to the barrel-bombs too, but the rebels cannot avoid hiding amongst civilians simply because of the topography, so I doubt it. If they all grouped out in the open, they would be sitting ducks. In any event, there are so many opposing factions which make up the so-called 'dissidents' that they would never be able to group together in one place. ISIS just hides in amongst them.

We are having a lovely real Spring here in the UK right now.

  1. Sounds more like one of the rebel groups out to skew the next round of peace talks. Looks like they have succeeded.

    1. So you don't believe the Guardian journalist?

    2. I mean, the only people who have access to jet fighters in the area are Assad and Putin, and it has been established that the nerve gas was dropped from the sky, not hit on the ground. Assad has done this before so why do you automatically blame the rebels?

    3. I smell a rat that's all. Why didn't more people die as would be expected from the alleged type of gas?

    4. A lot more people died than would have from a barrel bomb.

    5. Picture this: A barrel bomb lands on a block of apartments, killing most of the families inside. How many would that be?

If that bomb contains chlorine gas or Sarin, then the fumes permeate into the street and affect much more than those families hit by the blast, eh?

  2. I was expecting photographs of destroyed fighter planes, but nothing. Maybe they hit the wrong airfield.

    1. Maybe the Pentagon will show us the satellite arial before and afters - eventually.

    2. I mean, would you, a few hours after the attack? There has been ONE journalist on site at the gas bombing site, but right now it seems that it is not possible to send in ground photographers, because - surprise - they would be killed.

It is amazing how scepticism has no particular loyal affiliation.

  3. I have missed the news for so long that I knew nothing about any of this. Now I really wish I had missed the news for longer.

  4. No matter what took place in Syria yesterday, or in a sound-proof room in Florida last night, or on a Syrian airfield last night, or even today in Sweden or in other parts of the world, let's not forget how much all of us have in common, and how much we do love life and friendship.

    Best wishes.

  5. You have to wonder at people that can't accept that it is Assad that is responsible for this latest atrocity. Would they have stood outside Belsen and said we were blaming the wrong people.
Anyway, on a lighter note Tom, the Telegraph has a full page spread today on places to visit in Bath on a day out. They mention a delightful pub called the "Old Green Tree" - is that one of your watering holes.

    1. Yes, I live near the Green Tree and visit quite often. It was on the site of a 17th century bowling green and commorates the tree which used to be the shelter from the sun for the players. It has been a pub for about 300 years and was last decorated in around 1925.

  6. It makes no political sense for Assad to have carried out that chemical attack and this was going through my mind at the time I made the comment here, doubting that Assad was responsible. All I knew was through Cro telling me about the attack on my blog. I still do not believe all that is fed to us by newscasters although I admit nothing makes political sense in Syria.

    1. Putin's regime argument is that the village was of not strategic importance at all to the Syrian regime - SO WHY BOMB THE FUCKING VILLAGE IN THE FIRST PLACE? Answer me that, without Cro's help.
