Them and us

What can you say about the Trump v Clinton contest that hasn't already been said? Not much. The world just sits and waits for the outcome now, and whichever way it goes, it is going to be bad. There is an international climate of dread.

Here we have Farage having dark and public premonitions of civil unrest should the Brexit button not be pressed before parliament has had a chance to discuss the ramifications, and the U.S. also have shadowy figures predicting a country already split down the middle, moving toward a Civil War re-enactment, but with modern weapons.

It is the age-old Roman technique of 'divide and rule' to gain power. Both sides shout, "Unite!" at a confused and ignorant electorate, thereby avoiding being accused of trying to split the country. The run-up to all the voting recently has been deliberately devoid of any solid facts, let alone even flimsy  truths or dodgy policy. The candidates in these corrupt 'democratic' (with a small 'c') elections are motivated by power alone, but their backers are motivated by the accumulation of wealth, or at least the total control of whatever wealth there is to be had.

When the Romans invaded Europe, they were vastly outnumbered by the warrior population, but they still managed to gain absolute control. 'Pax Romana' meant a mafia-style protection against neighbouring tribes which were traditionally percieved to be a threat to their disparate little kingdoms, and hinged on the advice to 'unite' against the common enemy. The 'common enemy' was each other.

There are going to be a lot more lies in the coming years, with everyone blaming everyone else for the mess and hardship.

Don't believe them. There is no such thing as 'them', unless you count the tiny handful of psychopaths who will do anything to gain control.

    1. I just Googled 'Ludovisi', and all I found was hotels in Rome. I Googled 'arses' and was immediately directed to Going Gently.

  3. This post, like the American election, has gone right over my head - I can't be bothered with any of them or it.

  4. I'm guessing that 24 hours from now, we might be getting an minute by minute update on election returns. Neither result will thrill me, but I will still vote.

After voting, and taking some on site photos that I might be able to share, and buying something from the bake sale at the school where my polling place is located, I will take a walk.

There's a chance that I might encounter my House of Representatives Representative at the bake sale and have the chance to compare views. I've been able to do this several times over the years...and often have argued with him. At least, it's possible to see him off camera and have a real conversation.

After the walk, I will come home and make lunch, and paint some more Christmas cards. Then it will be nap time, so that I will be able to stay awake to watch how tomorrow night's history unrolls. I almost typed unravels.

    Best wishes.
