After two days involving dipping in Nitromors, sanding and the application of two coats of acrylic satin varnish with pearlised mica crystals suspended in a mixture of varnish tinted with acrylic white Artist's paint, the refurbishment of the bog seat is now complete.
Living with H.I., there is no such thing as a rushed job. 'That will do' is a phrase you never hear in this house.
I hope that it will be a "joy forever" for you both. Haha.
ReplyDeleteIt's a toss-up as to whether or not the seat outlives us. I hope it does - I've replaced enough toilet seats for one lifetime.
Delete...but you're only going to sit on it....that's rather a lot of work Tom !!
ReplyDeleteIf you are going to do something, you might as well do it properly...
DeleteI would make a nice picture frame to give to Rachel for her art work.
ReplyDeleteYou and Ursula should get together - on your own.
DeleteI've just re-read your comment - "I would make a nice picture-frame..." Yes, and you would make a good toilet seat as well.
DeleteDon't be alarmed, Heron, at Stephenson's suggestion to get together with me. Tom is easily aggrieved. You could lovingly offer him a cup cake and, instead of saying thank you, he'd ask where the cup is.
DeleteI think your suggestion to use a toilet seat as a picture frame most original. Talk about "thinking outside the bog".
U
You and the owld Druid really should get together. I would pay to watch the domestic webcam footage, but only the downstairs stuff. I am easily put off my food as well.
DeleteI would buy him a drink but the idea of going to Bath
Deleteworries me. You see I am well known in that area not Tom - an other 1 Female dragon c/w horns !
How much was the settlement?
DeleteWe have a couple of old ones in the shed that could do with that treatment. (the farmer hates throwing anything away)
ReplyDeleteYes, when you think of the amount of poo that has passed through them, they become as sentimentally valuable as an old mattress from John's house.
DeleteIt is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAlmost a shame to use it, eh?
DeleteWell done on a sterling job. Sadly our house has many examples of 'that will do'.
ReplyDeleteA big job for big jobs.
Deletelibby !
DeleteYou did say Sterling. Yes, that is falling so fast it will soon be a US Dollar

ReplyDeleteBrilliant job. Could have done with that in France on Monday. Had to pee in the brambles. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteIt isn't bramble-proof, but I prbably could have made it so.
DeleteTom, why not produce a few more but as a very limited and exclusive supply. Offer them up on ebay for gazillions of dollars. I'm thinking there might be more than a few yuppies here in the states, with disposable incomes, who would start a bidding war. You have the power to launch the latest craze in imported "Tom Stephenson Toilet Seat" Score!
ReplyDeleteThe pound is so weak against the dollar now. As low as 1985. Maybe in 10 years time.
DeleteDo the pearlised mica crystals sparkle?
ReplyDeleteWell, they give a pearly finish. We have two sorts - a lilac one as used on the seat, and a blue version. It is a very fine powder, not really crystals.
DeleteTom, prior comments and replies have wit that escapes me. However, I do congratulate you on a splendid completion of this project and also congratulate HI on keeping standards high.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes.
We could not afford to bring in outside expertise...
DeleteAbsolutely stunning. In my home I'd use it as a photo frame, much to nice for arse sitting. Don't tell H.I. but my husbands favorite saying is "for now" as in fixing the broken water pipe with baling twine is good enough "for now". I hate those two words.

ReplyDeleteOh, maybe Heron did mean it as a compliment to Rachel, then?
