  1. I would dearly like the support of any Africans who hold him in the same esteem as I do.

  2. Sorry Tom, but I have no idea what it is to be a "tosser" but I do know this. His ties sucks.

    1. Yes - ties like that are usually the mark of a complete tosser. Well spotted.

    1. I don't think that - like Nigel Farage - he would be served in my pub.

  4. So you think A.Mc.S is a tosser?

    1. Well, he wrote the appallingly bad, 'The Number One Ladies Detective Agency' - it even starts off with a terrible title.

    2. After reading all the other comments I see what you are talking about (your post doesn't make it clear) I have read the first book. Easy shallow read I thought. Nothing special but a bit patronising (stereotyping) haven't seen a film nor need to. Haven't heard the bloke speak but will accept your appraisal.

    3. Jane Austen on the other hand is NOT a tosser?ess.

    4. I don't know - I've never read one of her books.

    5. No, I condemn all the people that walk around in fancy dress here in Bath every year, that worship her.

  7. You said the same about Jane Austen.

    1. I could never have called Jane Austen a 'tosser'. It's an insult I reserve strictly for men.

    2. So "The little difference", a book by our most prominent feminist (and tax fugitive) in Germany, Alice Schwarzer, didn't reach the coasts of Albion?

  9. Why Tom? Explain yourself.
I have not read his African books - they don't appeal to me, but I adore his books about Bertie in Edinburgh.
Thinking about it - maybe it is his African books that form your opinion.

    1. I have only ever heard the radio dramatisations of his African books, so yes, that's how I formed my considered opinion. Actually, he was on the radio last night and said something so tossy that I was compelled to switch the computer on again just to put up this well-crafted critique.

    1. As banal as compiling (or copying and pasting, more like) great lists of Celtic gods and goddesses? Anyway, you should know by now that I specialise in banality.

  12. You should fix your clock, which says you had this opinion about five in the evening. It must have been much later. I have not read his books, but I do know what is a tosser.

    1. I leave the clock set wrong just to annoy Rachel. The next thing you need to do is to know WHO is a tosser, then you will be set for life, Joanne.

    2. I know what is a tosser because I also know who is a tosser. We all meet some along the way.
