Dream time

I'm in the doghouse again. I had an untimely reminder from Green-Eyes that she was expecting a Valentine's Card from a certain rat-like me, and - to tell the truth - I had actually forgotten all about the 14th of Feb.  She is almost 20, but still expects one from me, or some form of me.

So I looked through all the old drawings I used to do For H.I. (I can't believe I used to do one EVERY day), and came across this one which was done a couple of years before she (Green-Eyes) was born.

When her bro was a nocturnally cot-confined baby, I gave him a soft toy in the shape of a kangaroo which looked exactly like the above drawing. I don't know where it is now - he probably ate it in his sleep.

In my dream of his dream, he is obviously riding on its back through an exotic landscape, and I had forgotten all about it until just now.

So, in some psychic recompense, I dedicate this post to Sarah Toa, who knows what Kangas really look like, being constantly surrounded by them as she is.

Sweet dreams.

  1. Dear Tom,
that is a very sweet picture! Reminds me of Kanga and Roo in A.A. Milne's Winnie-The-Pooh:

    this take
    "If is shall really to
    flying I never it."

    1. Oh - I sat about five minutes to type it in the 'original' typography - arranging the words like big jumps - and when I published it, it jumped away - now you have to use your imagination.

    2. If I put that into a translator, it would probably come out as perfect German grammar. They won't let me use the translator any more - too much looking up the 'C' word.

    3. Hahaha: I might add a drawing of this hopping line 'If this is flying I shall never take to it" - the deep sigh from Piglets that was smuggled into Kanga's pouch. Or deep sigh over translator-gobbledegook.
Though some words are known by intuition and don't need a dictionary.

  2. Oh darling ...
I've just spent a few weeks in the bush and kangaroos visited us every evening. The man who owned the place put out feed for them so I got to understand their daily movements. They've been coming in for generations to show off their babies. Kangaroos are really cool critters; shy, strong and mammalian in their marsupial tendencies. I just love them.
    Thanks Tom.

  3. P.S. - I'm out of the dog-house now. I emailed one to G.E. and she melted again. Phew.

  4. North Yorkshire farmers and Valentine's Day are never mentioned in the same sentence!

    1. All the farmers in Borchester seem to make a night of it - plenty of kissing the backs of hands.
