Fire and water

With this run of hot and breezy weather, we are now beginning to worry about fires. This one started on a boat on the river last night, but there seems to be a spate of boat fires on that stretch recently. Everyone moved their boats out of the way before firemen started hosing the thing down.

We are now beginning to worry about thunderstorms next week too. It's either one thing or the other.

  1. The weather in Ontario broke last night with horrific thunder and lightning storms and tornado warnings. It is a relief when that happens but they are scary storms.

    1. As you know, we don't get many tornados, but we did have one in the 1980s. That brought me a lot of work on Longleat House. Ill winds, etc.

  2. I like the noise, I like the wet, but I don't like the strong winds that usually accompany them (I also enjoy a good blaze, but I probably shouldn't say that).

    1. I like all dramatic weather too. It's the endless weeks of grey that gets me down. I am really looking forward to a very cold winter, but am enjoying this summer while it lasts. Fire? Good servant, bad master, etc.

  3. I think the weather is never really right for us Tom in this country. Thunderstorms forecast for next week I said to the farmer - so we shall get a drop of water for the land with any luck. He groaned - stormy rain usually washes off rather than sinking in apparently. We need a good steady rain all day! Today is cloudy here and quite cool and I must say it is a pleasant change before the hot weather returns next week.

    1. Yes - framers here are not use do the idea of circular sprinklers, like the U.S. Oh well, the price of bread will be going up again.

  4. Collateral damage, as they say. Sad for the boat owner probably out for the cool evening breeze. The heat broke here last night; probably not on its way across the ocean.

    1. Probably not - yet. We have our own little anti-cyclone system on the go right now. Today, the wind comes from the East. Tomorrow, who knows?
