6 soldiers from our local town of Warminster were killed a day or so ago by an IED, whilst patrolling in an amoured vehicle. Just in case you thought - like I did before watching the video below - that they are small devices, think again...
Too much is enough. All this senseless loss of life reminds me of WWI and the 'donkeys' who led the flower of the youth of Britain to their deaths as cannon fodder. But this time the 'donkeys' are in government mostly pre-occupied with their expenses, pensions, salaries or the floundering 'coalition' which keeps them in power. Meanwhile otherwise unemployed young lads recruited from my town are being slaughtered by guerrilla warfare, WTF.
Well, yes. Some words were spoken by our Prime Minister about the loss of life to 'make our country safer', but when all is said and done, I really do not believe it. I just don't.
Yes again - if you join the army as a young man, you expect to be shot at once in a while - you even may expect to be killed, and those lads really do deserve credit for being heros, no matter what God-awful plan they are being asked to put into action.
There have been good leaders, and there have been bad leaders. Right now I believe we are suffering from the latter.
180,000 civilians killed in Iraq to 'make our countries safer'? WTF indeed.
Yes, and let the Taliban take over again, just like they did when the Russians moved out. Shame that there is no material gain to be had from stopping the slaughter of the Syrians.
When I did my spot of CCF 'Officer Training', the very first thing we learned about warfare was the classic 'Know your enemy, go in hard, go in strong'. We were also told that there had to be an 'End Game' (pretty obvious, you'd think).
Sadly our glorious leaders failed to read Page 1 of the manual, and look what a bloody mess they've got us into.
We live very close to Catterick Garrison Tom so any tragedy involving our young soldiers is very close to home. In this case they were not stationed there but all the flags on the Garrison are at half mast today.
bloody, bloody awful
ReplyDeleteYes - a big bang, no?
DeleteI take it, the poor soldiers died?
ReplyDeleteSo do I.
DeleteWow, that's all I can say to that......WOW.
ReplyDeleteMy heart stopped. I so pray their deaths were instant. Our world is so ugly

DeleteI'll just take your word for it Tom...and pray for them.

What are we doing there... does anyone know?
I don't think anyone knew what they were doing there since Rudyard Kipling wrote 'Kim' all those years ago. 'The Great Game' is unwinnable.

ReplyDeleteP.S. Just to think that we were supporting the Taliban against the Soviet Union not that long ago!
