Bomber Command over ('eau de' - GEDDITT?!) Cologne

Two posts in one day - what incredible value you get from me.

Two items acquired by me today, after years of hankering after each: A bottle of Kolnisch Wasser (4711) and an Ordnance Survey map of my area, scale: one inch to one hell of a walk.

The map cost £6.99 and the Cologne cost two ingots of pure beeswax weighing a total of about 2 pounds. One fragrance swapped for another.

I don't know who got the best deal, but I know which Napoleon would have opted for. I suppose he could have used the wax to make Elba-grease, though - GEDDITT?!

Q: What do women put behind their ears to attract men?

    A: Their knees.

    1. That was a heterosexual joke, John. You weren't meant to find it funny.

  3. You're quite funny today. Did you sniff too much of the 4711?

    1. I discovered last night that you're not supposed to drink it.

  4. Somewhere I have a tiny bottle of 4711 that is just one inch tall. I think it was a handbag accessory.

  5. 4711? Still on the go? Haven't heard of it for years but looking at the bottle in your photograph - can still remember the smell - horrible. I think it reminds me of my teacher when I was at infant school - she was very good and lifting your skirt and slapping the top of your legs hard if you got a sum wrong!

    1. I used to be pretty good at that too, Weaver. Yes, 4711 is still churned out in Koln - my bottle was bought direct from the factory. Horrible? It is mainly citrus. Don't you like citrus? I think the French version has bergamot, which must make it a bit more complex.
