Feral criminal underclass

I actually like Boris Johnson, London's latest elected Mayor, but I am willing to admit that he can be an unspeakable prat much of the time.

A couple of days ago, he described the recent looters and rioters of London's poorer areas as 'The feral criminal underclass', thereby making an immediate - if unspoken - comparison to the other end of the social spectrum which is 'The domestic criminal overlords' - i.e. bankers.

I really don't think that the buffoon Johnson (who is normally very entertaining) quite realised the damage he would do to his own career by blurting out this inaccurate and ill thought-out analysis of recent unfortunate events, but he has - at a stroke - shown himself to be the privileged and out-of-touch-with-reality goon that most people have always suspected him to be.

Since the 1980s, it has been impossible to hold a peaceful demonstration in London without it being hi-jacked by a bunch of leftist loonies or even just simple violent criminals out for a fight; and since the 1980s, anyone who did not own their own property in which to stuff all the hi-tech gadgets on offer, or carry a credit card with which to buy said gadgetry using money they did not have, have been regarded as the 'underclass'.

Now it seems they have - for want of any care or attention - officially gone feral.

  1. Notice that most of the by-standers in the above photo appear to be smiling - if not laughing - at Boris. Imagine the looks on their faces if Tony Blair were to walk down that street (if you can imagine the idea of Blair walking down any street in Britain without an armed guard).

  2. I too like Boris. He comes as 'a bit of light relief', even if he does occasionally drop a clanger.

  3. I really like Boris, even though he can rush in where angels fear to tread now and again. He reminds me of Prince Philip sometimes !!
