Good news

And what a great thing good news is, compared to the usual stuff which hits the airwaves every day. I know Raz has put up a post of the Chilean miners, but - having just seen a clip of the first man to be brought to the surface to be greeted by his crying, little daughter plus the rest of his family, I had to try and find an image of it. Sorry about it's tiny size. There's five more up now, and the rest will be up by sometime tomorrow, then we can breathe again, eh?

  1. The world has been sitting on the edge of its seat waiting for this to happen and get them all out safely. There was one little snippet on the local news. Apparently one of the miners has a wife and a mistress and they only met up when they both turned up at the mine. Wonder what Tom would have done in this situation :0) ??

  2. It's an amazing story. They did a bit better than those poor Russian submariners ten years ago... we had a similar scenario in Beaconsfield, Tasmania.

  3. ...and so can they Tom. Can not even begin to imagine what being trapped underground must be like. Stuff of my worst nightmares. Thank goodness they are (almost all) safe.

  4. I suppose one can't be both a miner and claustrophobic; but I can't imagine they'd ever want to go down there again.

    Wonderful news that they're safe.

  5. I missed seeing the first man come out, but watched 9 and 10. I wonder how the emotional recovery will be for these men.

I could watch it all day. I find it very heartwarming.

  6. A life affirming rescue. I hope they are healthy mentally as well as physically.

  7. Apparently there now are a few wives and mistresses waiting above - must be a somewhat different culture in Chile..

Yes, Sarah T - I was thinking of those Russian submariners too - all that tapping for days, and no happy ending. I used to lie awake at night thinking about them. Lat night I had a dream that there was a second disaster at the Chilean mine, and woke up thinking it was true. Happily, it was just a dream.

  8. I've missed the whole thing. Glad they're out though, and how funny about the mistresses, haha.

  9. That's it - they're all safely out. Unbelievably (actually, not so unbelievably) they were arguing over film rights whilst they were all still underground.

  11. I heard today that they were actually assigned agents well before they left the pit... oh well, I don't expect their recent success will go to their heads. What shall we do now? Send a few men to the moon, give a few people a billion pounds/dollars, give a junkie 100% pure heroin, then wish them all luck with the rest of their lives?
