Andy Pandy was the most vapid, silly and mindless children's puppet show ever to appear on British TV, and it was broadcast in the black and white of the 1950s. Nothing ever happened, and it was an insult to 3 and 4 year old children.
'Andy Pandy's coming to play - but not today!! that's what I used to tell our grandaughter when it was time for the telly to go off. On another subject Tom - I looked up John Aubrey on Wikipedia. Frances Bacon was a bit of a 'rum un' by all accounts. I read the bit where he got that woman to dress that chicken and then stuffed it with snow. He must have eaten it raw to get salmonella. Then they gave him a cold bath and he caught the flu from hell which apparently finished him off. A lot of history is just facts but it's great when somebody like Aubrey brings it to life. I have got a sink full of washing up to do - so bye for now (remember Jimmy Young as well)
That's the best account yet, Molly. He never made it to cold-turkey. I am so glad to you all for not kicking me after that confession - Andy Pandy, for F***'* sake!
Time to confess...me too!
ReplyDeleteCount me in!

ReplyDeleteTold you, I don't tick boxes. 'Confessions of a Snow Carving Stone Mason'. The last comment made me laugh. Keep blogging.
ReplyDeleteYou don't tick boxes, but do you kick-box? Keep kicking boxes Molly - I love you already.
ReplyDeleteTom, there was another horribly annoying show I used to watch when I lived in England. Not sure how it was spelt. Jakanory?
ReplyDeleteTom...Andy Pandy was quite sweet. Now...had it been Bill & Ben, The Flowerpot Men! ...well!
ReplyDeleteJackanory was good, Raz! Especially when Kenneth Williams was reading the stories.
ReplyDeleteI liked Bill and Ben too - it was Flobalob.
An old, and rather tasteless joke:
ReplyDeleteBill (to Ben): "Flobalob!"
Ben: "If you really loved me, you'd swallow it".
