My Mum

Here she is, modeling for 'Jersey Club' in about 1939. There were no super-models then, they were called 'manikins', and didn't make much money. Sadly, a combination of WW2 and the arrival of my sister finished her modeling career, and the outbreak of the war meant that she never made it to the assignment in Denmark which she had been so looking forward to.

  1. I notice the words 'Amazingly inexpensive', below your mother's picture. What a very strange way to advertise clothes. I don't think today, that even Primark would dare be so bold.

    Fine looking folks, Tom.

  2. 'Amazingly inexpensive' also applied to the models in those days too, I think! But it's not 'Amazingly cheap'.

  5. P.s. - She who I have mentioned before owns an Alexander McQueen jacket, and it is not dissimilar to the above. He was a good tailor too.
