My period of Limbo has been extended until the beginning of the second week in February.
My Volvo genius has moved to Australia with his family so I have tried to find a garage who are willing to even look at the intermittent - but dangerous - little problem with the latest car. I discovered a Volvo specialist on the outskirt of town the other day, and to my relief they have booked me in - on February 8th. I am hoping the wait will be worth it. Volvo main dealers charge about £200 per hour, the mechanics wear white coats like doctors and the bays are cleaner than NHS waiting rooms.
Looking at it positively, there could not have been a better time to be without a car. I am organising lots of other work which will not be ready to start until next month anyway, and I am enjoying being indoors as one named storm after another rolls across the British Isles. I have a site meeting on Friday, but this will involve a pleasant walk down the river on what is predicted to be a sunny day.
I know I said I would not show a picture of the old car, but I think you would agree it is worth saving even if I could afford to throw it away and get another. The engine is good too. Once I have spent a bit (lot) more money it will suit my multiple purposes nicely.
Like all estate cars it is a useful workhorse, and an unusual colour. Also it has a definitive shape, easily recognisable on the street, I can see Pulteney Bridge in the background.
ReplyDeleteThis is the second Volvo I have had in this colour. I preferred the silver one. Yes, Pulteney Bridge. I can see it from our window too.
DeleteSome people say that this model is the last of the real Volvos. The engine is a good design too.
DeleteI also like the classic look of the Volvo. The color and cargo space is outstanding as well. A good Volvo mechanic is worth his weight (and more) in gold. You'll enjoy your time to February and the Volvo's return to perfect running condition.
ReplyDeleteI hope so!
DeleteHave always liked estate cars. Ours is a Golf. Estates seem out of fashion now. People now have those awful jeepy things.
ReplyDeleteThere are a few classic estates being made now by people like VW. I know what you mean about those nasty SUV type cars - they all look the same. I know someone with a huge BMW version. It is huge on the outside but inside it is cramped.
DeleteA car is a car is a car is a car.................................................................................
ReplyDeleteIt is these days.
DeleteDon't know a Volvo from a VW from a Nissan. (Typical woman I hear you say)
ReplyDeleteThese days I don't know the difference between any of them because they all look the same. Big and ugly.
DeleteThe old car and the latest car are confusing me, especially caused by the final paragraph.
ReplyDeleteWhen I said old, I meant the age of the latest car.
DeleteI left a comment but it has disappeared.
ReplyDeleteIt was spammed.
DeleteThe design and the colour are fine. That Volvo is a car that still has "a face". At the moment I see other car models that look really brutal - the Flying Dutchman says those are made for the Chinese Market.
ReplyDeleteI hate those modern cars. There is no elegance to them. Brutal is the right word.
