Hello/Goodbye, Janus

I have made several attempts to leave a comment on Rachel's post, but (I am hoping) Blogger is chucking everything I say into a bin. You will have to embiggen this screenshot.

Every time I look in my spam box I find one of my own comments - on my own blog - has been chucked in there too. I mean, they are MY comments which I am being asked to approve. It's enough to make you paranoid.

Some people are using the last few days of 2022 to get a final rant in before they are forced to begin the new year on a more positive note. It reminds me of how governments use the last few months of their tenancy to legislate in a way that makes it very difficult to be reversed by a new administration. That reminds me of how certain letters are removed from all the keyboards of the Whitehouse offices by the outgoing party. And that reminds me of how some evicted tenants would sew a whole kipper into the mattress of the apartment before leaving as a final parting gift.

I notice that the round-robin has lost its appeal to most people in the blogging world. If you follow social media you realise that bigging yourself and your family up is no longer confined to one day of the year. It happens for 365 days, back to back. Still, that's a lot better than being forced to witness stark reality all year, although I do like a bit of gossip about other people. I suppose that's what private accounts for invited friends are about. Ask Wayne Rooney. He knows all about it.

My award for 'Blog Title of 2022' goes to Mr John Gray for his latest post, 'Tits in the Milk'.

  1. Your comments section is never straightforward on my desktop. When I comment here, as now, I am offered an initial stage where I am able to type after the photo, but it then re-sets and gives me a blue line on which to type. So I have to type a word, wait, then start typing again once the line appears. I suspect that any initial words would not get through. If you are reading this, it is my one and only attempt, at 2.47pm.

    1. I think that is not my fault, but I could be wrong.

  2. I have just found the comments. It has taken 15 minutes to release the one you show here and the one saying you watched the Harry Dean Stanton documentary refuses to publish at all even though it says it will now appear. I hadn't looked in spam this morning because I wasn't expecting many comments.

  4. That is wild: Blogger censoring you, the owner of the blog. There is something very covert about all this...

    1. Stuff like this always happens at Christmas. Lack of staff I think.

  5. I have occasionally had to approve a comment of mine..or others...on old posts...but most seem to go ok. I am not keen that some spam comments turn up in both spam and approved comments!! One has to be definitely on the ball!!

  8. Most of the comments in my folder are my own, or else they are comments that previously published and for some strange reason have been unpublished and moved into the spam folder. I don't get it, myself.
