Just saying

I don't know about you, but this blogging lark is getting me down.

I know - after over 4000 posts - I am boring even myself now, and I miss some of the regular contributors who used to keep us going. I mean people like the Hattatts, Sarah Toa and Donna, that woman who used to keep real pigs back when Donald Trump was just a twinkle in the eye of Satan. Many others of you have seemed to give up posting too (not you, dear Weave), and whenever Sarah posted a beautiful bit of lyrical prose with equally beautiful photos, she got around 4 comments per post on average, which must be disheartening, even for an established writer.

I am fed up with the petty squabbles between John Gray and Rachel as well. I can do without all that shit, especially during these days of heavier shit. I like to get involved mind, but - as they say about betting - when the fun stops, so should you.

Can we come to an agreement? Can we try to positively entertain a bit more rather than bore each other?

Just saying.

  2. Can I just say - I shall be ninety in October and I PROMISE IT IS YOU LOT WHO KEEP ME GOING. I read you all every day and if I can think of anything to say in reply I say it. I have to think of something to say every day - some days not an easy task - like today - the day my carer doesn't come and as today I have seen no one, spoken to no one. Please don't give up on me. xx (share these between you.

    1. I love you Weave and I promise I will NEVER give up on you. You keep me here more than anyone else. It is my birthday tomorrow. I will be 71. Younger than you and the Queen! XXX

    2. It's my husband's birthday tomorrow as well. Thanks for the reminder. ;)

  3. Difficult post for me to comment on. You took me by surprise. You know I post most days so no point in talking about posting. You know how I feel about some of the other things here. Me and John will make up and be friends again, I'm too old for falling out with people long term and I don't really like it, not being friends with him. In a simple way that's it. X

    1. That's the spirit. We all need each other and we all need to make allowances for each other. Let's have fun. See you tomorrow.

  4. I, for one, really do enjoy seeing your worlds through your eyes. No one agrees on everything, but I really do enjoy my morning coffee with my blog reading. Thanks.

    2. Well, people can see things differently, but in the end, it's your blog. It would be like me walking into your livingroom to argue with you. It's rude. State your own view maybe, but leave quietly.

    All is ok xx

  6. I enjoy all the blogs and look forward to the varied topics. Occasionally, there is a little detour and a bit of angst but taking it all in stride is best for everyone.

  7. It's tomorrow already for me, so Happy Birthday to you, Tom! As for your post suggestion, I honestly don't even know where daily bloggers get the time to put something out there, let alone be entertaining!!

  8. The time difference makes me crazy. I have your bd on my calendar as May 12. It may be, if it's the 11th. But, it's only time.
I read you every day, Tom, and comment unless your subject is so local to you and out of my understanding. Today I did watch Prince Charles open parliament, in hope of encountering the subject. Some things in Charles' little booklet from the queen seem to be wish list items. William didn't know what to do with his thumbs.

    1. That speech is the only one which is not written by the Queen. It is the government's wish-list. I don't know how that came about, but the monarch has to knock three times on the door before they are let in to give it.

    2. I have just signed on to your blog again. I don't know how I ever got signed off. It must have been a button-pressing accident of some sort. Now I know that more people are posting than I thought!

    3. Of course - it was when I had to leave when you accidentally sent us all 1000s of your old posts. I remember now but - as you say - forgot to come back. All done now.

  9. All is well in the land of blogs don't worry. Have a drink from all of us if it is your birthday today. Be like the queen have two birthdays a year. Rule with righteous indignation! x

Please don't stop blogging.....I have read you for years ( well it feels like years!) and would miss you if you went. You are right about people stopping blogging though.....several of my favourite people have disappeared this last year or so.
Looking forward to more photos of your block of stone, and seeing what it will become. X

  11. Happy Birthday Tom. I have been blogging since the high days of 2006, when there were many of us and a vast fraternity. Like you, I get few comments these days. I gave up for a year once, but returned,
Now I post only occasionally and am thinking of giving up again. All the new digital communications have taken over and people don't seem to have the time or inclination to blog any more. It's a dying thing.

  12. I don't think you're boring, Tom, but otherwise, I tend to agree. I find getting into arguments quite unsettling. I think we have to accept that people have different opinions.

  13. Happy Birthday..have an enjoyable day. Regarding blogging? I read blogs everyday but have lost my blogging mojo..I'm hoping to get it back again.
    Increase the Peace x

  14. Happy birthday Tom. The blogging mojo comes and goes. I miss Next Blog and having a wander around the blogosphere!
Still it is good to have blogging friends... comments yes , but arguments are not necessary. As I said to someone, its your blog anyway!!

  15. Happy, happy birthday Tom and many happy returns of the day. I meant to send you a card but it went out of my mind .... would you like a belated one ? Also, lets get back to just having a laugh...... we need to get back to the deep and meaningful things like The C**t game !!!!!!! Life is far too short to fall out over things ..... we are all different with different opinions and that's good and healthy. If we read peoples blogs it means we have connected in some way and find something likeable about the person but we are bound to have different opinions about things. Love and Peace !!!! XXXX

  16. Happy Birthday Tom!!! I don't blog as much and hardly anyone reads it. I am not into the Gram, I like to read things. But I find myself boring - nobody wants to hear about my day job even me, and my glamorous other life is quite routine really. And the shop is just..a shop. Meh. To me you are all much more interesting and I really like how the age group for bloggers is more mine. I am surrounded by the young, but they say they keep us young and maybe a bit, but mostly I feel old!

    1. Thank you Mrs C. I want to hear about your day job. Strangely, I find that sort of thing more interesting than burlesque.

  17. Happy Birthday, Tom. I am a blog reader and have never been a blogger. It is a happy part of my day and I sure missed the blogs when my computer was down for a few days last week. I usually ignore the squabbles because I can't always follow the outrage. Thanks for blogging!

  19. Many happy returns! All the best! I'm w/ Weave's sentiments. I will be 83 in November (gulp!) and live in a rural beautiful part of Maine without the opportunity for much interaction with people. My friends and almost all of my family are dead. I've adapted well - no choice. Each morning I look forward to the opportunity of sipping my coffee and "traveling." Reading blogs has been wonderful. I've met interesting people and traveled without having to leave my home. I've learned much. Thanks for your topic today. Good of you to take it on. Little snitting doesn't belong on blogs. We're in a different time zone but I'll be sipping a cocktail tonight before dinner sending more b'day greetings.

    1. Thank you Regina. I love reading other people's blogs. It's a bit like getting a break from cooking. No matter the quality of the food (within reason) it is wonderful to be cooked for. I have to say that I have done my fair share of causing trouble on blogs, as anyone will tell you, especially when I have had a couple of drinks. I stick to my thought above by saying that - like betting - when the fun stops, so should you.

  20. I miss Donna's contributions as well, Tom. I don't feel I've much to say, which may or may not be true, and have dropped off with regular posts over the last few months. (-also don't consider myself much of a writer, so there's that as well.)
    Here's to not being a bore, I hope! x

  21. Happy Birthday. I get up at 6.30 make a coffee and read about 5 familiar blogs, including yours. It is hard when blogs suddenly disappear. It is worrying too, you wonder if some catastrophe has befallen the blogger. I do appreciate people who blog. I hope you have a good birthday, Is there something you hope to do on your birthday?

  22. Tom, I tried several times to comment on this post yesterday and wish you a happy birthday. I have to write most comments on my phone (when I'm not at home to use the desktop computer) and for some reason about half of the blogs I read won't allow me to comment from my phone. This just became an issue this week. So anyway..........Happy belated Birthday! I hope you're celebrating all week.

I never find your blog boring. Sometimes I don't fully understand the political posts but even those are entertaining and informative! So please don't stop.

    1. Blogger has gone a bit weird recently. The thing I dislike the most is how it shuffles the order of posts, so that sometimes you could miss a new one, thinking it is old.

  23. Hi Tom xxx still here.
    Let's reset for a revival.

  24. Belated Birthday Wishes Tom. I've noticed that some of the blogs still around are more like forums where people talk to each other in the comments rather than it being an interaction just between the blog poster and an individual. I suppose it depends on the topic but when I blogged I rarely got people comment on each other's comments! My writing was uncontroversial and probably not even worth a response.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sometimes it is difficult to come up with a reasonable response to a reasonable post. When that happens to me I don't bother to say anything just for the sake of it. I am sure it is like that for most people.

  25. Belated birthday wishes Tom. What an old-fashioned word 'belated' sounds!

  26. I wanted to say that I don't find you boring. However, I feel as if perhaps I should not comment on political posts. Number one, it's such a hot button topic. Number two, I'm not knowledgeable about the politics of your country. It is interesting to read them and the comments too.

PS Happy birthday. I've been away and although I've read blogs, I've not spent time commenting.
