You have to be in it to win it

You wait all year for a storm, then three come at once.

I'm off to see if the gazebo is still standing. All bets are still on, but the book will close at midday. First prize is an old mattress unless Iris claims it first.

Tie-breaker: Which Queen Elizabeth slept in my old bed?

Was it (A): Elizabeth the 1st or (B): Elizabeth the 2nd?

  1. I will guess that you found some coins spilled out of your pocket, and so it was queen Elizabeth II you found in your bed.

  2. Regarding the mattress: Truck just broke, Grandma just died, and dog ate homework. Will have to get back with you later about picking it up. ;)

  3. The window just blew out of our shed and some of our fences are hanging on by a thread ! More damage than the Great Storm of 1987 in our garden but nothing terrible …… I don’t like the chances of your gazebo !
I got the pineapple question wrong so am reluctant to answer your Elizabeth question…… I’m going to say Elizabeth 1st as Debby said Elizabeth 11 …… I’m bound to be wrong and the photo of Elizabeth 1st is probably a red herring !
Hope you don’t get blown away. XXXX

  8. I say the gazebo stands and I couldn't get the prize across the ocean, so I hereby decline, no matter who slept in your bed.

  9. Busses, hey? ERI would be a more delicious idea and, by my reckoning, ERII only sleeps in her own beds around her domain while ERI had her rich subjects pay for a new bedroom to be built &/or decorated to sleep in every night she wasn't at home, so there'd be dozens of them out there!

    1. There is a pub near here where E2 spent the night after getting stranded in a snowstorm.

  10. If she slept in your bed, Tom -- either the first or the second - I think that it is HIGH TIME to buy a NEW mattress! Don't cling to the past - especially not to old mattresses. Out with it!

  11. I attend a weekly music quiz, one round of which is pictorials that describe a song. One time the pictorial was Queen Elizabeth and she was photoshopped as if lying down on what looked like the floor of a bathroom. We were jiggered! Betty this, Liz that, we tried all sorts of ideas. the answer was "Elizabeth on the bathroom floor" which really is the name of a song. And ever since then, if we can't make head or tail of the clue, we say, Elizabeth on the bathroom floor, and say exactly what we see.
    It's never worked ;-)

    1. Here, any old woman who is photographed lying on the floor of a bathroom is called Mrs Hope and is advertising a panic button for the elderly.

  12. Ok - you are all right and all wrong at the same time.
I got there yesterday to find the gazebo still up on four legs, but later found out that the man with the Land Rover had repaired a broken guy rope just in time before the whole thing jumped itself to destruction. It survived with a little help from its friends. Nobody deserves the mattress other than Iris.
