Don't eat the yellow stuff

A White Christmas at the house where I was brought up. My mother would be really pissed-off if anyone ruined the pristine snow covering over the huge lawn by walking across it and leaving stupid boot prints, but I could think of nothing better than trudging through virgin snow.

I see the logia door is half open. Whichever sibling took this photo must have made a circular route around the perimeter to get to the shoot position.

  1. P.S. My bedroom was behind the timbered mock Tudor gable right in the middle. That made me feel quite important.

  2. The house is beautiful and so different from the houses we grew up in here. Have a Happy New Year Tom.

  4. Such a thing I have never experienced. not even in winter. You have to go up a mountain in winter here to find snow. Right now I have the air conditioning on full blast and it's only 11am. Hey ho :)

    1. There was a murder here once. The owner of the house shot the gardener. He got away with it by saying he thought it was a rabbit in the bushes. Rumour was that the gardener was having an affair with his wife. He later built the annex you can see to the left of the picture for her to live in on her own.

  7. That is a beautiful childhood home and the setting is fantastic. I like landscapes with vistas and long views. With your bedroom location, you were rightly lord of the manor.

    1. The view to the south was very good - all the way to the Surrey Downs. The house was on a high plateau.

  11. I thought I had left a comment, but alas it is not to be when I use my phone. So here I am at the old computer desk to say I think that house is beautiful. I love the different levels of stairs going up to the front door and the windows and all the chimneys. -Jenn

    1. Actually that's the back door Jenn. The house is, architecturally speaking, a bit of a mess. Surrey is full of houses like this - we call it mock-Tudor.

  12. What a grand house!

After an unexpectedly difficultly December - as much logistical as anything - I'm finally catching up on some of my favourite blogs to wish their authors a happy new year and say thanks for reading and commenting on mine. Yours has been a new find for me this year - I look forward to reading more.
Meanwhile, I hope next year brings us better times and plenty of words (and pictures) to inspire and entertain.
    Best wishes
    Mark
