Beautiful bird-shit

Weave has requested a more light-hearted post from me, so here is a rather beautiful image of bird-shit.

There is a very friendly (to the point of aggression) little robin which hops around me and the workshop most days, and I have to cover up stone and marble because - especially at this time of year when blackberries are in season - they can leave some stains on the pale things which are very difficult to shift.

I covered some pieces of Portland stone with a large sheet of drawing paper the other day, and it is a good thing I did. This is what the robin left for me.

No respect whatsoever.

    1. The tannin from oak is second worst only to rust stains on white marble.

  4. Stains on stone are most difficult to remove. My blue stone walkway has a small brown stain and nothing (so far) has removed it.

    1. They are usually so difficult to remove because they don't just sit on the surface, they soak in by up to a quarter of an inch or more.

  5. Oh, what a beautiful souvenire! You've clearly got a friend who enjoys your company. Thanks, Tom, for a giggle this morning at the base of the mini-mountain in Maine.

  7. So much more delicate than the offerings the pigeons leave in our garden …. great big splats of blackberry coloured poo !!! Your robins offering is worthy of Tate Modern ! I have two robins that follow me round the garden when I’m digging …. so cute and so tame. XXXX

    1. I should teach them to come straight to my sheet of paper every time and sell the results. I think that if robins were the size of dogs they would try to kill us, just for the food.

  10. Bigger the bird, bigger the poo. You need to entice a wren to like you.

    1. I have had wrens nesting in a hat which used to belong to Joyce Grenfell, a famous British comedy actress who was also a keen birdwatcher. This hat was her birdwatching hat.

    1. If you lived in Bath you would feel even less positive about them.
