All will be well

Well blow me. Only the other day I was explaining frigbobs to you and now I am using one for the first time in about 20 years. I am saving myself a few hundred quid by chopping this 8cwt block into a 2.5 one to make a pineapple gate finial. My words of the previous blog - bragging about being able to saw continuously for over an hour - came back to haunt me as I stopped for a breather every three or four minutes, but I must not be too hard on myself. I am not as young as I used to be and out of practice.

So Denmark has banned the use of the Oxford vaccine for fears of blood clots in young women.

Some years ago they banned Marmite too, for fears that it contains too many vitamins, untested in the quantities that Marmite lists on the jar.

Because Marmite is a by-product of the British beer-brewing industry, and because the British brewing industry has been out of action for about a year, there is a nationwide shortage of Marmite here at the moment. I tried to buy some the other day, but even Waitrose had none.

Soon we will have Marmite again, and soon there will be more Astra Zeneca vaccine on the market when Denmark refuses to take it. All will be well.

    4. Now this was a brilliant exchange! There's a story that limburger cheese will protect you from STDs...because no one will get close enough to give you one.

    7. Ha! I had to google it. I wonder what it tastes like.

  2. Do show us the pineapple gate finial. Pineapple is the symbol of hospitality and will add a very nice decorative touch to the gate. Johnson and Johnson is now on hold in the US due to blood clots.

    1. More largesse than hospitality I would say. I don't think that old people have the same problems with side effects that younger ones do.

  3. I´ve tried to eat marmite several times, usually spread very very thinly on toast, but I just can´t stomach it, definitely an acquired taste.

  4. Does Marmite taste anything like malt?

    1. No, not much. It looks like malt extract but that's all. Soy sauce is a weaker substitute.

  5. In my younger days I was banned 'the pill' for the same reason the vaccine is banned for younger women. Now it no longer matters. I just love a blog that can get marmite, vaccine and frigbobs together. That looks a helluva job.

    1. I am not sure I would have wanted the Pill if I had been a young woman.

  6. We too are not going to be using the Astra Zeneca vaccine for women under 30 years either, but Denmark has banned its use for everyone.
Would love to see your pineapple when it is done.
I have had no difficulty finding Marmite - it is an 'essential' for the men of this household.

    1. I wonder why men seem to like it and not women. I also wonder why soap for men is always moulded into square blocks with sharp edges and corners. We have feelings too, you know.

  7. That's going to be a lot of chiselling.

  8. I would love to see some photos of the pineapple as you create it... showing the process as it becomes more like a pineapple than a chunk of stone!

    1. Maybe I'll put up a few. The process began 180 million years ago when a load of mud began to dry out.

  9. That looks like the grit/mud saw ,we might use for cutting large Jade or other rock boulders.
