I am lucky enough to be surrounded by a huge variety of wildlife at my rural workshop.
The squirrels with good memories are retrieving the buried hazelnuts that they hid last Autumn. There were a few secreted on my path, including this one with the hazelnut-shaped hole and two halves of shell either side of it.
It reminds me of a bird's nest with eggs.
As you can see, I still have my old iPhone...
ReplyDeleteYou are fortunate to have a workshop sited thus. We have an excess of jackdaws and seagulls...the only smaller birds in the garden are starlings and blackbirds.
ReplyDeleteIt was a joy to see a goldcrest when we ventured out of the village on a walk.
Yes, I am fortunate. A Red Kite flew over the other day and it was mobbed by two different species of hawk.
DeleteI also keep my old iPhone, and everything is fine. There are also signs of spring here but no squirrels.
ReplyDeleteThere are no security updates for old phones. They want you to buy a new one.
DeleteThe squirrels Bury hazelnuts in our lawn and they are always digging them up .... empty shells all over the place. I still think squirrels are so cute. I love seeing them. XXXX
ReplyDeleteI would rather see more red ones, but maybe I am just xenophobic.
DeleteLovely photo Tom - they're not daft those squirrels.
ReplyDeleteThey have larders.
DeleteThat's some good looking dirt. Much longer and the hazelnut would have sprouted. I love hazelnuts.

DeleteCrowned Heads of Europe....
Have you read....?
'An Enquiry Into the Foundation and History of the Law of Nations in Europe'...?
As the painting on the side of Professor Marvels coach in the The Wizard of Oz reads...
"Acclaimed by the Crowned Heads of Europe"..
And...In 1952 the Chicago Tribune used the phrase "Crowned Heads of Europe" to describe the mourners at the funeral of George V1...
HeHe! Nowt about Bollocks...!!! :(.
Did you ever see a TV programme called "wild tales from the village"? Red squirrels featured large and are totally adorable. You can still find bits of it on You Tube even though it's now gone from iPlayer.
ReplyDeleteNo, I'll look out for it.
DeleteI THOUGHT it was a birds nest with eggs!
ReplyDeleteThe jay packed some whole walnuts into pots on my balcony - he should have used their good power for the brain and eaten them immediately, but he didn't - now he seems to have forgotten where he put them...
Jays here prefer acorns I think.
DeleteLooks like the mince my mother would make on Mondays
ReplyDeleteI miss that mince.
