Sorry to anyone who may have come here in the hope of a little light entertainment, but this has to be said. Anyway, you don't come here for my recipes.
Our beloved (by some) BBC is constantly accused of political bias, by both the left and the right. It is quite easy to detect the political leanings of individual presenters and commenters, but not so easy with the Corporation itself.
This Tuesday, ITV will host the first televised debate in the run-up to the election and have invited Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn to meet face to face in front of the cameras. They have not invited Jo Swinson of the Lib Dems to take part.
To deny Jo Swinson a voice is denying the huge success that the Lib Dems have had in recent local elections, in which they took many seats away from both Labour and Conservative. Millions of (gullible) people will watch this debate and Jo Swinson's opinions could have a marked effect on the outcome of the election, even if it is only to help Jeremy Corbyn. Corbyn will not compare well with Johnson in a one-to-one stand-off.
The Lib Dems appealed in the High Court to have their say in ITV's debate, but lost the case.
The BBC is publicly funded. ITV is funded privately.
I am scared to death to watch tonight. And I am scared to death not to watch. its awful god we are in such a mess.
ReplyDeleteNo matter how it works out, we are probably fucked for at least my lifetime. I would like to strive towards a positive attitude, but the runes are against it.
DeleteOn the fuck scale some outcomes could be higher on the scale than others.
DeleteAs always. On the pragmatic scale some compromises will always be worse than others too.
DeleteThere's a rumour that she's getting Barnier to stand in for her.
ReplyDeleteSilly.
DeleteIt was meant to enliven you to enjoy a smile before bedtime.
DeleteIt did.
DeleteThat is not democracy.
ReplyDelete...as we know it...
DeleteAs this is basically a 'Brexit Election', it would have been helpful to have leave, don't know, and remain, arguments all together. No such luck.
ReplyDeleteAll those factions were represented by Jeremy Corbyn.
DeleteWho does fund ITV?
ReplyDeleteAdvertising - and probably more.
DeleteMore dirty tricks - Conservative Central Office re-named their Twitter account 'Fact Check UK' then put out a lot of positive responses about Boris's performance. Unbelievable.
