I worked for Arnold (Lord) Weinstock shortly after Jacob recorded this interview. I restructured GEC for him.
Well, that's not strictly true. I restored an intricate grotto at Bowden Park, Lacock, after it was damaged by the notorious hurricane of the 1980s which Michael Fish said was a myth before it hit.
In one way we both have something in common. We both make money from national disasters, but he - obviously - made more than me.
My Dad worked for the GEC and we aquired a painting from a bunch that were, at the time, surplus to the GEC's requirements. Provenance a touch difficult.
Ah but you didn't cause the hurricane that did the damage in order to capitalise upon it.
ReplyDeleteNo, that was done by a butterfly flapping its wings in the Brazilian rain forest.
DeleteI must admit to having bought my first shares whilst still at school, but no-one took a photo of the transaction.
ReplyDeleteYour father wasn't editor of The Times, though.
DeleteI have an oil painting that Arnie did not think was worth sending to The auction house. For that I love it even more.
ReplyDeleteI think you might have to add a bit of detail to this for anyone to understand it.

Ah. I see.
DeleteRees mogg is a disgrace
ReplyDeleteI heard him belittle and mock a urology consultant on LBC this morning for arguing against brexit
He specialises in sneering.
DeleteWhen you look at mogg's father's writings...son has profited from following that.
ReplyDeleteI think he believes he is unassailable.
