Friends like him

I know that most of you refuse to even read any politically slanted posts here, let alone comment, but to hell with it.

Ahead of his State visit to the U.K., Donald Trump has taken some time out of his busy Tweeting schedule to endorse two candidates standing in the Conservative Leadership campaign currently boring us to death here.

Boris Johnson would be his first choice, but since Michael Gove criticised his policies over Iraq, he is now officially a 'bad man' and should be discounted.

Trump said that another undisclosed politician also begged him for an endorsement but he declined, adding that any endorsement by him automatically adds 60 points to the recipient's popularity ratings.

I wonder if he really believes that? Boris obviously does. He is over the moon at the curse which has been brought down on him by Trump. Boris Tweeted to the effect that he could not wait for Donald to arrive, and he is the best friend he has ever had in the world. That bit is probably true.

They are probably both looking forward to the boost in arms sales when Saudi Arabia  gets together with a few friendly neighbourhood tribes to attack Iraq, thereby starting yet another war in the tinder-dry Middle East. Those poor children.

  1. At the moment the candidate that I have the most time for is Rory Stewart. Boris is personae non grata as far as I am concerned.

    1. I despise the lot of them. They did such a good job in improving their image about 4 years ago, now they have sullied it for ever.

    2. Rory's time will come; at the moment I think he needs more ministerial experience. A very capable young man!

  2. There are lies coming out of the Middle East again and like Blair before, the lies can lead us into a war that is not needed. As for the Tory leadership contest, it matters not who endorses who, the fact is the country is divided which has been made worse and endorsed by the example set by both sides of the House of Commons for three years and will remain with us for my life time. If Boris Johnson is taken to court for lying about the net figure given to the EU, he mislead because it is the gross figure he quoted not the net, then the courts should have a queue of liars from the House of Commons ahead of him, with Blair at the front of the queue.

  3. Really all I was talking about here is the utterly bare-faced and unashamed narcissistic audacity of Trump's uncalled-for and unwanted intrusion into Britain's domestic politics with his meaningless endorsement.

I personally know that the average Iraqi loves Great Britain in general and England in particular. All Saudi is doing is backing Trump and he needs all the backing he can get. We are forced to back Trump for economic reasons, but I hope we don't go as far as scumbag Blair did when he went along with the lies put out by the USA for the sake of oil. Electric cars - can't wait.

  4. I despair of the lot of them and bury my head in the sand - am entitled to do this at my age.

  5. I'm so sorry Trump is in England embarrassing us yet again. Please believe that most right thinking Americans despise him and believe that none of the shit that comes out of his mouth is worth paying any attention to.

  6. I saw the advert on Sky, I think it was, that showed various Brits and buildings momentarily covered in shadow because (the) trump (balloon) had arrived. Even though I think trump is a threat to our country and yours, I was able to chuckle at that.

  7. The Sky ad is hysterical. It made me laugh. I will always read your politically slanted posts, they're interesting. I do try not to talk about the Orange Cheeto in every post, but there are some things that must be recorded.

    1. I have some more things to say, but I am going to say them here in the comments. You can have too much of a bad thing.

  8. I hear he plans to tell the Queen that he would be much better at being Queen than she is, being a stable genius and all. I cringe every time he opens his mouth and feel even worse when he is in another country. Sorry he is being inflicted on all of you.

  9. Re Boris: With a friend like Trump who needs enemies! I would imagine that the Orange One's endorsement could be the destruction of Boris's hopes.

    But who cares..................?

    1. Yes. That was the title of this post, but it can be read in a few different ways. I am really hoping that Trump's endorsement will put an end to Boris's ambitions, but these days politics is so mad that it might well help after all.

  10. Hopefully its the kiss of death for Johnson. There is talk of cancelling the state dinner, but of course we won't, too well mannered for that.

    1. The Mayor of London has the right approach. Who on earth would have dinner with someone who says all those vicious things about you?

  11. This is a footnote which deserves a separate post, but I would run the risk of turning people off if I did it.

Trump said in another interview yesterday that he hopes Britain walks out of Europe with no deal so he can sell tons more American goods to us with his one-sided trade deals. He described the UK as a huge, untapped market for the USA. Subtle eh?

For this reason alone it would be best if we remained. I don't trust our current - or future - government to say no to his hormone-fed beef and chlorine-washed battery chickens. We will have to find somewhere else to get our electronics made which isn't China too.

    1. I'm sorry for you too. He has just touched down here, but even as the plane taxied he was Tweeting insults to the Mayor of London. What a statesman.
