Your vote counts

This - along with a couple of tons of other stuff - is pasted to the wall of our pub. I imagine that the young (ish) person that stuck it up did not bother to vote in the referendum. They are now being targeted by Jeremy Corbyn for a hoped-for future General Election, and I daresay that he will have their support despite that he is a keen Brexiteer. Nobody has thought about anything to do with this whole mess. Nobody. Anything - at all.

The Queen gave a very good talk at a W.I. meeting yesterday, and the reverberations from it are rumbling across Europe today. Never underestimate the W.I. Look what they did to Tony Blair when he tried to give them a little talk. They make very good cakes as well.

Years ago when another landlord owned this pub, Margaret Thatcher was thrown out of Downing Street and Bath lost the very talented and influential Chris Patten as M.P. The somewhat dim-witted, left-wing landlord threw a party with fireworks in the back garden to celebrate.

A little later, Tony Blair was elected as Prime Minister and the 'New Labour' government ruled the land. The landlord threw another fireworks party.

Shortly afterwards, Tony Blair began to show his true colour (blue) by carrying on where Thatcher left off in confronting the unions and waging wars in far-off countries, killing hundreds of thousands of innocent people. This was the birth of ISIS and the strengthening of the Taliban. Even the Taliban thought that ISIS were a little on the extreme side at the time, but now they have teamed up in Syria.

I saw the (largely absentee) landlord after the election dust had settled and the scumbag New Labour cabinet had got down to work, and I asked him if he had any regrets about the last celebration with fireworks and dancing.

He covered his face with his hands and said, "Don't..."

  1. Your statement that Blair carried on where Thatcher left off is insulting to Mrs Thatcher. He did no such thing or, if he thinks he did, he made a poor job of it and at the same time plunging the country into a spiral of debt. We had £300bn of national debt when Labour took over. It soon rose skywards.

  2. In my 71 year lifetime, Thatcher was easily the best PM that I've ever experienced. As for Tony Blair, his only claim to fame was helping start a war in the Middle East that turned him into a multi-millionaire.

    1. Never mind the Queen. I am going to promote divisiveness by saying that your opinions on the performance of Margaret Thatcher count for nothing - unless she feathered your particular nest of course. So let me ask you - are you totally happy with the 'wealth creators' she nurtured who are the prime cause of almost every bit of the current problems that the world is now experiencing? You have a very short and selective memory, Derek. Do you have adult children? Are they still living at home? What about the first ten of your 71 years? Do you really think that Thatcher was in the same league as Churchill and MacMillan? Do you still have your faculties?

    2. That's a lot of questions in reply to a simple statement in support of Maggie Thatcher, although I suspect a piss take in support of another blogger, more than genuine questions from you. I simply said that she was the best that I've experienced, I didn't say that she was perfect. In the same league as Churchill? she never had to dig us out of a World War so difficult to compare, although she did an excellent job re. the Falklands. But I would compare her with MacMillan and say that we "never had it so good" as we did while under her leadership. From the times working under her I have, and continue to, live a comfortable financial life. Do I have adult children - no, I hate children. Do I have all my faculties - very much so as my recent health MOT confirmed. Anything else you want to take the piss about in order to impress your friends, I don't run away.

  3. You sound to be getting some of your 'get up and go' back - I am pleased about that.

    1. There is nothing like anger for stopping you from feeling sorry for yourself, Weave. This is why all good psychotherapists would advise 'pull yourself together' if it weren't for the money they would lose.

  4. Getting back to civility, respect and common ground, that's all most of us have to work with. How can we ever unscrew this mess?

    1. Not in our lifetimes. I think we are stuck with it. What a legacy for our grandchildren.

  5. I've just heard on the news that there was a poll about The Queen's comments; she came out well ahead.

Beware Corbyn's promises. Last time it was free university education, this time it could be free car insurance for the under 25's, no income tax for the 25's to 65's, and free walking sticks for the elderly. That should win him a few more votes!
