I heard a women describe this period between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve as the '
perineum' today. I think that is a rather apt and vivid seasonal image.
Janus stands on Stinker's Bridge, simultaneously looking ahead and behind. I'll be glad to see the back of him.
The Humber Bridge bears the same name.
ReplyDeleteDoes it? Which side is the genitals and which the arsehole?
DeleteI think one bit is the fishy side.
DeleteI heard someone calling it 'no man's land'; which sounded a tad sexist to me!
ReplyDeleteThat's another good name for it, bad taste or not. There is no such thing as good taste in this subject anyway.
Delete'Looking ahead and behind'..when we were young my ma used to tell us that she had eyes in the back of her head....
ReplyDeleteShe was lying.
DeleteI think we are all hoping 2019 will be a better year. It can't be much worse can it?
ReplyDeleteI think it can, Weave.
DeleteEver the realist, Tom.
DeletePrepare for the worst.
DeleteHe seems an apt marker for the end of the year.

ReplyDeleteI am finalising drawings for the major project of 2019. That means staying away from my freezing, dank workshop. Plus, I get up between 9 and noon.
DeleteMy New Year resolution: If you have Comment Moderation enabled I am going to stop following your blog. I cannot be arsed to find out if you approve of anything I say and I find it insulting that you think it necessary. I have already left one tonight.
ReplyDeleteHaving just deleted one boring and irrelevant comment about this, I now understand why some of you may wish to enable comment moderation on your blogs. You want to spare us the boredom and irrelevance of boring and irrelevant people, don't you? That's very thoughtful. Thank you.
DeleteThis might be my favorite blog post title of 2018. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteCatchy isn't it?
DeleteAgree with Jennifer - a wonderful post title, Tom!
ReplyDeleteYou may remember, 'Hello Mary, show us your hairy' from school days?
DeleteSince I heard the expression used, I've been playing with the word. Perinannum?
ReplyDeleteSorry, I don't know what you mean.
