Banksy's best yet

The hammer had just come down on a Banksy painting at the London Sotherby's auction house - for over £1 million - when the painting self-destructed by lowering itself through a shredder hidden in the frame.

The shredder could have been started from anywhere in the world using mobile phone technology.

Banksy is almost a local to me (Bristol) so I am justifiably proud of him. Sotherby's has just been had - a rare thing.

  1. Whoever bought it got a bargain. I reckon it has doubled in value since it shredded.

  2. If you burnt it it would be as sensible as buying such nonsense. £1M? You have to be having us on.

    2. Don't you remember when the pop group KLF burned a million pounds cash on the island of Jura? Now THAT's commitment.

Uh, not to be that guy, but there is no "R" in Sotheby's.

    1. Most people were filming it on their phones, like everything else.

  4. You can turn strips of shredded currency into the national treasury for a refund. At least in civilized countries. I wonder if Southerby will debit Banksy's account. Hold some paintings hostage. Check frames for shredding mechanisms. Actually, a good prank for bored elites.

  5. I'm reminded of the film Exit Through The Gift Shop. Anything and nothing can be viewed as valuable art, it would seem.

  6. I am sure somebody will buy it shredded and then probably sell it for twice the price. The art world has gone mad.

    1. I suppose he can only do that once. I wonder what he will do next.
