Socialist/Capitalist music

Oh, I don't know. What I do know is that I will feel more of a foreigner when I visit Europe next year.

A mainlander decides to open a mine on the coast of a Greek island and employs the expertise of a local who seems to be knowledgeable, but also seems to be a bit swamped by his own personal and national history. Sound familiar?

In the end, the intellectual mainlander embraces the local culture, and after a catastrophic explosion and a few deaths, everyone lives happily ever after - maybe.

Trouble is, they have sun, sea, sand and culture. We have rolling green hills and Elgar. That's it.

I am close to despair with this Brexit stuff. I am close to tears, actually. It is not going to get better soon you know.

  1. You are down playing England.
PS There is a better clip of that dance :)
No, it's not getting better but GB can't be a lost cause. All the young high earners that I know are NOT legging it back to Germany!

    1. I wonder what gives you such a cheery outlook. It certainly cannot be a sense of optimism tempered by reality. Are you German? If so, please look upon us as the first nail in your coffin.

    1. Unfortunately, we in the UK are close relatives.

  3. Yes, we can relate, sadly.

  4. Things just keep going from bad to worse to truly horrific here. I'm near despair right now, too.

  5. Try to be optimistic. As an off-europe tax haven, the UK will attract foreign investment like never before.

    1. At the same time as forcing companies like Amazon to pay more UK taxes? How is that going to work?

    2. If the UK offers the same tax rates as Luxembourg, Amazon would probably move to the UK, and pay her taxes there instead.

  6. You have more to fear from a Labour Government than Brexit.

    1. During the time of Blair, there was little to choose from between the Conservatives and Labour. The Conservatives are such a useless shower now that even some party members are saying that Corbyn is beginning to look like Prime Minister material. I think you have more to fear than I do.

  7. I voted to leave and gain independence again and would vote to leave again if ever we were fobbed off with another referendum. Regretfully I voted to join the "Common Market" back in the 1970's, being taken in and thinking it would just be a trading partnership, not the non-accountable political gravy train that the EU has become. As usual, the politicians are sodding about and running around like a lot of scared cats and not getting a grip of the job.

I recommend the poem "The Secret People" by G. K. Chesterton.

    1. The gravy train is rumbling on as usual, even after its main purpose - to defend Europe from the mighty dollar - has changed completely. Brussels is understandably reluctant to reform, and all MEPs are reluctant to make it - it's a well-paid job and they don't want to lose it. Britain could have lead the way in draining the E.U. swamp, but instead accidentally chose to cause an stupidly expensive crisis which has opened the drain covers and allowed the far-right rats out of the sewer to take up positions of power Europe-wide. Giving Joe Public the option of jumping off the Brexit cliff was the single most stupid thing that any Prime Minister has done in living memory. And all in an attempt to keep his hold on power. The fucking idiot.

    2. Going into WW1.must be considered very stupid too.

    3. We were not given a vote about that.

    4. And WW1 was supposed to be the end of all wars in Europe. The E.U.'s greatest achievement has been to prevent further wars in its territory using trade agreements.

    5. It was a stupid thing a Prime Minister did was how I was looking at it in comparison.

    7. Yes. I believe Keynes would be for staying in Europe.
