I have just bought a (nother) copy of this book. I have bought at least four copies over the last 50 years, but I am so impressed with a herbal remedy I have been using recently that I am going all herbal, all over again.
I remember a remedy for bronchitis which involved a tobacco inhale. That's my kind of physician.
Does Culpeper have a remedy for ageing?
ReplyDeleteYes. Deadly Nightshade.
DeleteThat looks like a great book. I must look for it at my next round of thrift shopping. My favorite herbal recipe for aging involves poppy serum. Need I say more?
ReplyDeleteSniffed or injected?
DeleteI am saving that for extreme old age.
DeleteI'm probably growing the wrong herbs.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Maria x
You have to eat.
DeleteDo you intend to actually read this book?
ReplyDeleteIt looks incredibly boring to me Tom.
It's a reference book, Weave. You don't read it cover to cover.
DeleteI keep my home herbal by the side of the chair for reference purposes, along with the atlas and the dictionary.
ReplyDeleteThat's probably why you didn't die - or if you did, you would have known where you were and how to spell it.
DeleteNostradamus was a chemist/herbalist and made many 'healing' brews.
ReplyDeleteSo was John Dee.
DeleteSounds like something Caravan would sing.
ReplyDeleteIt was Bonzo Dog. I used to hang out with Caravan in Canterbury.
DeleteWell, Dave Sinclair anyway.
DeleteBlimey I’ve been thinking about that book all week. Can’t find my old copy. Must get a new one. How are you?
ReplyDeleteMuch better since the Devil's Claw, thanks. My copy was under £6, but you can buy 19th C. ones for a few hundred.
