Most American diplomats and politicians are shitting themselves over the unexpected meeting between President Trump and the President of North Korea. If he pulls it off to the advantage of the USA, then Trump will have truly placed himself in the history books - not that he has not placed himself there already.
My favourite quote from a worried American diplomat goes roughly as follows:
"He is like the dog that chases the car, then once he has got it, he doesn't know what to do with it."
He won't catch this car; he doesn't know who will pay for it.
ReplyDeleteI remember writing that Fat Boy's best option was to give up his nuclear weapons, embrace the west, and change his country's future for ever. People laughed; it could now happen!
ReplyDeleteI can't see it, but I suppose it was just as likely that Trump would become President.
DeleteYou couldn’t make it up...
ReplyDeleteIt will be his biggest 'deal' yet...
DeleteTalks between nations not seen as friends have a lot of build up but do not often achieve much in the end but when they happen they, and what follows, are noted down in history if nothing else. Eisenhower and Khrushchev is one such in our life time. It ended up a damp squib. Bertrand Russell will be cheering from his grave, he was always writing to world leaders imploring them to talk to each other.
